Dungeons & Dragons | Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

Longview Recreation Complex is proud to offer the roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons. The structure to the stories brings new ways to determine the consequences of the adventurers’ actions. Players roll dice to determine whether their attacks hit or miss and whether their characters can scale a cliff, roll away from the strike of a magical lightning bolt, or pull off some other dangerous task. Anything is possible, but the dice make some things more probable than others. Dice will be provided.

WATERDEEP: DRAGON HEIST - Take a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin! This Adventure will take your character from level 1 to 5. You may bring your own character, or you can be provided with one.

Stars to the East Auditions –Once Upon a Mattress (Youth Edition)

For the spring of 2024, the Stars to the East production will be the youth edition of Once Upon a Mattress, the one-hour adaptation of the beloved musical that launched Carol Burnett’s career. Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. After all, a princess is a delicate thing.

Please refer to our website HERE for important pre-audition information and forms.

REHEARSALS will be Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:00pm starting Monday, March 25 with a mandatory cast/crew/parent meeting. These rehearsals will be at the College Grove Artsitorium at 8601 Horton Highway in College Grove. Occasionally, a rehearsal will be at the Nolensville Rec Center. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be given out at the cast/crew/parent meeting on the first night of rehearsal.

Rising Stars Auditions – 13

For the summer of 2024, the Rising Stars production will be 13, a hilarious, coming-of-age musical about discovering that “cool” is sometimes where we least expect it. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents’ divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?

Please refer to our website HERE in March for important pre-audition information and forms. Note: Those auditioning must be able to commit to attendance at ALL rehearsals and performances and must enroll within two weeks of being cast in the play.

REHEARSALS will be done in a two week intensive camp! Rehearsals are 9:00am -3:00pm weekdays July 8-19, with the first week at the Enrichment Center and the second week at the Performing Arts Center, both in Franklin at the Academy Park Campus.

PERFORMANCES/FEES**

There will be 3 performances July 20-21 at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center. Once cast, a registration code will be provided to cast members. **The 2-week camp intensive activity fee will be $400.

Straight to the Stars Auditions –

She Kills Monsters (Young Adventurers (Teen) Edition)

For the summer of 2024, the Straight to the Stars production will be She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen. Straight to the Stars produces an audition-based straight (non-musical) play starring High School actors (rising freshmen through graduating seniors) during the summer. Straight plays generally have smaller casts, so these productions offer our oldest youth actors the opportunity to more fully develop their acting skills and delve into their characters in a smaller community of actors. And this production will not only offer acting opportunities, but opportunities in puppetry and stage combat!

She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. Deidra Alexander is the director.

The Star Bright Players Performances –The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The Star Bright Players Spring 2024 production will be The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero. Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

Peter Parnell’s book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

Blandina Vergara-Cruz is the director and Dr. Johnathan Vest is the Music Director.

The Williamson County Community Band is an all-volunteer band of amateur and seasoned musicians. This intergenerational group features approximately 60 musicians ranging in age from pre-teen to upper 80s and is made up

of all skill levels. Everyone is welcome to pick up their instrument and join the band. Started in 2000, this band has grown and gained musical recognition and acclaim over the years throughout Williamson County and the surrounding mid-state area. Averaging several concerts a year, they perform free indoor and outdoor concerts for the community at various venues and parks, including The Williamson County Enrichment Center, The Factory, Aspen Grove, Westhaven, the Brentwood Library, Crockett Amphitheatre and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

For information on joining the band, contact director Randy Frame at rlf1950@bellsouth.net. If you’d like to schedule a concert, please contact Victoria Reed at Victoria.Reed@williamsoncounty-tn.gov or call 615-786-0186, ext.2515.

Mission Statement:

It is the goal of the Williamson County Community Chorus to engage passions, inspire achievement, deepen connections and broaden community through choral music.

The Williamson County Community Chorus was founded in 2017 under the direction of Dr. Linda Bolding. The chorus grew quickly and at only 2 years old was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in February 2020. The chorus is open for participation by qualified High School students, adults and seniors who have past experience and a passion for singing. The chorus performs no less than twice a year at the culmination of each session: Fall/Winter (SeptDec) and Spring (Jan-April) and enjoys a break over the summer months. They have performed large scale concerts, singing with an orchestra, and most recently kicked off the Christmas season to an audience of nearly 800. We are delighted for the success of this group and invite residents to audition and to support us in the audience.

The chorus is directed by Karen Mabry Lewis, a veteran choral music educator from the Dallas area who obtained her BM degree with a concentration in Voice from Belmont University and a MM degree from SMU in Music Education and Vocal Performance.

If you are interested in joining the Williamson County Community Chorus or for more information including sponsorship opportunities and audition appointments, please contact Carrie Cartwright at (615) 786-0186,ext. 2519 or Carrie.Cartwright@williamsoncounty-tn.gov or visit wcparksandrec.com.
