The Marvelous Wonderettes: A ‘50s & ‘60s Jukebox Musical

Friday, November 4 at 2:00pm & 7:00pm Saturday, November 5 at 2:00pm & 7:00pm Sunday, November 6 at 2:00pm This smash Off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where we meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy: four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, the girls serenade us with classic ‘50s hits including “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” and “Lipstick on Your Collar.” In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. We learn about the highs and lows the girls have experienced in the past decade and are charmed to find that no matter what life throws their way, they will conquer it together. Featuring over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane! More info HERE

Concert

Sunday, November 13 3:00pm

Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave., Franklin

With a performance date just past Halloween and preceding Thanksgiving, we will concentrate on seasonal holiday favorites, as opposed to traditional Christmas carols. The concert will include tunes recorded by “crooners” from 1934 – 1964, as well as some more recently recorded by current pop artists. We will also share seasonal tunes from Broadway shows and movies, in addition to a couple of “smashups,” combining familiar holiday tunes with music from other genres. The perfect chance to kick off the upcoming holiday season.

Engineering for Kids Robotics Robo Games - Fall Break Camp

Robotics Robo Games curriculum is designed to introduce students to the world of not only building, but also programming basic robots. The challenge facing robotics engineers is that the robot knows only what is written into the program. The design of the robot must also be capable of performing the task at hand. Each day students will design and program their LEGO robots (EV3) to compete in games inspired by the classics such as Pong, and hide and go seek among others. Students will use a couple of very handsome cat and dog models from Williamson County Animal Center, where you will learn how to capture a pet in motion, as well as that perfect head shot that’s bursting with personality. Penny Adams will share her top tips and tricks on shooting great pet photographs as well as an opportunity to shoot some on your own in this hands-on workshop with topics such as: - Lighting and exposure (especially the all-black pets) - Perspective - Composition - Focusing - Camera settings and tricks with your subjects - Understanding animal behavior - Weird noises 101 - Editing *Equipment needed: While digital SLR’s are encouraged, attendees may use other types of digital cameras (including camera phones and point and shoot). Attendees should have a basic understanding of how to use their own camera equipment. *Please bring your laptop if you would like one-on-one help with editing your work. If you will be shooting in camera, you may wish to load different photography apps such as Focos or SnapSeed. A portion of all registration fees will go directly to WCAC and the photos taken may be utilized to help the animals on social media. Each animal is ten times more likely to be adopted with a great picture! For more information, contact Evan Smith at Evan.Smith@williamsoncounty-tn.gov ACTIVITY #

Dungeons & Dragons – Waterdeep: Dragon Heist

Fairview Recreation Complex is proud to offer the roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons. The structure to the stories brings new ways to determine the consequences of the adventurers’ actions. Players roll dice to determine whether their attacks hit or miss and whether their characters can scale a cliff, roll away from the strike of a magical lightning bolt, or pull off some other dangerous task. Anything is possible, but the dice make some things more probable than others. Dice will be provided. WATERDEEP: DRAGON HEIST - Take a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin! Star Bright Players Auditions – Shrek the Musical The Star Bright Players Fall 2022 production will be Shrek the Musical!

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek the Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears. “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek....” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand... and his name is Shrek. Those auditioning should refer to website HERE for important pre-audition information and forms, including the ability to schedule an audition. Rehearsals will Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm starting October 19 with the mandatory cast/crew/parent meeting. All rehearsals will be at the Academy Park Campus (combination of rooms at library, Enrichment Center, and Performing Arts Center). There will not be any rehearsals Thanksgiving week (Nov 22-23) and Holiday Break (Dec 20-21, Dec 27-28). Crew members are expected at rehearsals starting December 6. Blandina Vergara-Cruz will be the director for this production. She brings vast experience directing our Rising Stars program and years of teaching and directing students of all ages throughout our community in addition to a love for our Star Bright Players program

Rising Stars Auditions –

Disney’s and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins JR.

The Rising Stars winter production for 2022-2023 will be Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins JR, based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations. The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.” Those auditioning should refer to website HERE in early October for important pre-audition information and forms. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:00-7:30 pm, beginning Tuesday, December 6. There will also be a Saturday rehearsal from 12:30 - 3:30pm on January 7. (There will be a two-week holiday break the weeks of December 19 and December 26.) All rehearsals will be at the Franklin Recreation Complex. The last week of rehearsals (starting February 13) will be every night and will be at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center in Franklin. There is a mandatory cast/parent meeting held for the first 45 minutes on the first night of rehearsals.
