I’m excited to share with you our Fall Guide and introduce myself in the process. I’m Meghan Bonfiglio, the new Director of County Parks. I previously served as the Chief Deputy Director prior to the retirement of long-time leader, Coy Vaughn, this past June. I’m incredibly excited to step into this new role with County Parks and would like to highlight some key initiatives in the near term, including:
• Advancing the B2B Trail to complete its final segments within 5-7 years.
• Collaborating with County Administration on the Eastern Washtenaw Community Recreation Center (EWCRC) in Ypsilanti to enhance community health through indoor and outdoor recreational programs.

• Implementing the 2024 Five-Year Recreation Master Plan and Strategic Plan.
• Upgrading park facilities, including renovations to the Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center’s natatorium, enhancements at Independence Lake County Park, and development at Staebler Farm County Park’s north side.
In addition to the initiatives above, I’m most inspired by our incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated staff, whose talent and commitment to our mission is truly energizing.
In my free time, I enjoy visiting the Washtenaw County parks and preserves. A few of my favorites are Park Lyndon, Weatherbee Woods Preserve, Kidder-McKeachie Scio Woods Preserve, and Draper-Houston Meadows Preserve. Fall is a great time for birding watching and so you’ll likely see me at Sharon Mills County Park in Sharon Township where the birding is fantastic during migration! I’m also a tireless advocate for land preservation and trail development and believe that everyone has a right to safe and equitable access to our parks and preserves—the goal being to bring people “Into the Outdoors” and in touch with nature.
I look forward to meeting you at one of our wonderful programs, events, or parks.
Meghan
