Hello my fellow donors, my name is Stacy Earl and for the past 22 years I have been working with you behind the scenes. If you have called in to the station we may have chatted a few times. My favorite moments include assisting donors with anything from setting up Passport and now NPR Plus, to investigating why someone has not received their guide or thank you gift. It always makes my day when I am able to answer a member’s question and provide them support.
As many of you know, in November we observe Veterans Day. On this day we pay our respects to those who have served our country. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans. This day is especially important to me as both of my stepsons served in Afghanistan. Every year we sit and reflect on the time they were away, and all that this time means to us as a family. Please join us in November as we enjoy the wonderful work that Public Media put together to tell the stories of veterans from near and far.
November is also a time for change. The leaves on the trees will be changing from green to red, orange or yellow. We will be voting for a new President, no matter which side you stand, Public Media plays a crucial role in election coverage. WCMU strives for neutrality, offering balanced coverage of candidates and issues which helps to reduce misinformation. We will start coverage with a couple of Frontline programs that look at both Presidential candidates followed by a look at both Vice-Presidential candidates. Then PBS News Hour 2024 Election Coverage will begin at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving at the end of November, we continue to be thankful for all our members. Year after year you let us know in many ways that we are doing exactly what you expect from us through all your support. Thank you!!
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 8PM
Explore the life and work of the 15th century polymath Leonardo da Vinci, Ken Burns’s first nonAmerican subject.
NOVEMBER 18 & 19, 8PM
LEONARDO da VINCI is a two-part, fourhour documentary directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon that explores the life and work of the 15th century polymath. Set against the rich and dynamic backdrop of Renaissance Italy, the film brings the artist’s towering achievements to life through his prolific personal notebooks, primary and secondary accounts of his life, and on-camera interviews with modern scholars, artists, engineers, inventors, and admirers.
This November, WCMU Public TV is proud to honor the veterans in our viewing area and across the nation with a special lineup of programs dedicated to their service and sacrifice. From powerful stories of courage and resilience to heartfelt tributes, we recognize the immense contributions veterans have made to our country. Whether they served in World War II, Afghanistan, or anywhere in between, these programs offer a chance to reflect on their experiences and express our gratitude. Join us in celebrating and honoring those who have served with a month of meaningful and inspiring content.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 9PM
Salute to Service, hosted by Jon Stewart and featuring the United States Army Field Band, is a heartfelt Veterans Day celebration honoring heroes past and present, uniting us in gratitude as we reflect on their service, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of America.

Narrated by actor Kevin Bacon, the documentary shares the riveting, true story of an American who joined the British SOE and was parachuted into France with a small team just after D-Day to organize the French Resistance into a cohesive army. The mission was to stop Germany’s most feared troops from reaching Normandy in the days after the D-Day landings of June 6, 1944.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 10PM
Riddled with survivor’s guilt, Marine veteran Anthony Marquez makes it his mission to reconnect with the Gold Star families of the fallen. By carving and hand-delivering a battlefield cross for each, he finds the path to heal himself.

Thanksgiving can be special day for young children and families. Special traditions, family gatherings, and big meals are staples of the holiday. Children love the food, festivities, and time at home with loved ones. Many families also have traditions of volunteering and giving back to the community. This year, consider practicing gratitude as a more regular routine — you can ask “Who are you grateful for?” every night before bed or at the dinner table. Encouraging thankfulness builds empathy and encourages kids to think about all the people who help them every day.
NOVEMBER 28, 12:30PM
Arthur and his family are getting ready for Thanksgiving! But when Pal disappears to go on his own adventure, Arthur puts his plans on hold to search for him. Meanwhile, D.W. starts to think that Aunt Minnie might be more of an Aunt “Meanie”. Can family, friends, and the rest of Elwood City get Pal home and help D.W. and Aunt Minnie celebrate the best Thanksgiving yet?
Evlyne Sheltrown was born in Reed City, MI, in 1940, but her family moved to West Branch when she was two. She graduated from high school, got married, and raised their two children. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University in 1962, Evlyne transitioned to social work in 1964, enjoying a 30-year career with the Michigan Department of Social Services, now known as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
Over the years, she worked in various counties, advancing from child welfare worker to Zone Manager. She retired in 1997 and moved back to Reed City to be closer to her aging parents.
Evlyne enjoys public media, especially nature and science programs, Ken Burns documentaries, folk music specials, Finding Your Roots, Outside: Beyond the Lens, and Masterpiece Theater. At one point in her life, she realized, “It dawned on me that I had a responsibility to support public TV. There were no ads and shows were uninterrupted, which I really appreciate. I also get to attend concerts and plays that I physically cannot attend, and at no charge,” she said.
Although Evlyne no longer serves on boards, she volunteers with her church, the library, the recycling center, and Hospice of Michigan. She loves reading, music, antiques, attending local plays and concerts, birdwatching, and traveling, having visited five continents. Evlyne’s favorite destination is Hawaii, where she has family.
Now, with two children, four grandchildren, and many life experiences, Evlyne finds joy in simple pleasures like music and nature. “Public media enriches my life and contributing is a pleasure.”
