As summer winds down and we settle down from our adventures I cannot help but get excited for my favorite season, fall. September marks the beginning of the harvest and a time to get back to routines, which traditionally means a new school year, busy schedules, and season premieres. I love this time of year; it brings renewed energy to the community. The crisp air, the leaves change color, the smell of caramel apples, pumpkin spice coffee, and tailgate parties. The change of pace and return of busy schedules helps me look forward to the end of the day when I can put my feet up, grab a blanket and get lost in my favorite shows.
I always enjoy our local WCMU shows, however, this month I am looking forward to our content that celebrates Hispanic Heritage month, educates the community, and provides me with endless hours of entertainment.
Understanding perspectives is a fantastic way to learn about each other and celebrate our differences. This month we have programs that do just that. John Leguizamo’s does this in a powerful storytelling documentary series focused on the history and overlooked contributions of the Latinx community, The Voces: American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos. Continuing the celebration, the 36th Hispanic Heritage awards will air on September 29 and then immediately following American Masters will feature the documentary, A Song for Cesar, the story about labor activist Cesar Chavez and his success in a social movement. PBS will also feature two powerful films that

explore the desegregation of American schools. You can watch The Busing Battleground on Monday, September 11, and The Harvest on Tuesday, September 12. If you are not ready to relax on the couch just yet turn on the radio and listen to WCMU. Tune in during your fall tailgate parties or campfires and listen to Home Spun on Saturday evenings or The Juke Joint on Sunday evenings. Also, while you are listening, do not forget that our fall radio pledge drive will begin on Thursday, September 7 and go through Thursday, September 14. These events help us at WCMU continue to serve our mission to educate, inspire, entertain, and engage our supporters, like you. If you would like to partner with us on this pledge drive, you can learn more about member challenge funds on page 22.
As the Director of Development, I would like to thank you for your continued support and wish you a happy Fall Harvest and season premier month from WCMU.

Offering news, arts and culture, family programming, and everything in between, public radio and television stations are a tremendous resource to the communities they serve. DCECU recognizes the value that WCMU brings to central and northern Michigan, and we consider it a privilege to be a WCMU sponsor. It’s truly fulfilling to know that, by being a WCMU sponsor, DCECU is contributing to something that is deeply valued by the community. And on a personal note, I always feel honored to hear or see our sponsor spots on-air amid the variety of programming that our sponsorship helps to support.
