For Our Members ...
“LO, THE WINTER’S PASSED, THE RAIN IS OVER AND GONE, THE FLOWERS APPEAR ON THE EARTH, THE TIME FOR THE SINGING OF BIRDS HAS COME. AND THE VOICE OF THE TURTLE IS HEARD IN OUR LAND.” --SONG OF SOLOMON 2:11-12
For many Michiganders, hearing lines delivered by famous Detroit Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell was a sure sign that spring had sprung! It’s a time of anticipation: warmer temperatures are on the horizon, flowers are emerging, and our days are filled with more sunlight.

Mary Anne Evans-Justin and David
Justin have a very unique story about how they first began giving to WCMU Public Media. They were playing Monopoly with their family one holiday and the winner was told to select a charity. Said charity would then receive a donation from David and Mary Anne. Their niece, the winner, was in preschool at the time and loved Sesame Street. This led to the beginning of Mary Anne and David’s support of WCMU.
David and Mary Anne appreciate the quality of the news, information and entertainment they receive from WCMU. They say, “The learning opportunities provided to children and adults are worth the investment in public media. Central Michigan University’s support of WCMU provides opportunities to the citizens of Michigan to stay up to date on the happenings of our state. Supporting WCMU Public Media allows us the opportunity to serve our fellow Michigan citizens.”
David is a retired school counselor and for many years served on the Alma school board. He stays active in the community by being a board member of the Alma Child Advocacy Center, umpiring for baseball, volleyball, basketball and a couple other sports. Mary Anne is a retired pastor and Christian educator and remains involved with her church. Mary Anne is also an accomplished quilter.
WCMU Public Radio can be found on in their household from the moment they wake up until 6pm when they switch to TV and watch PBS NewsHour. David and Mary Anne look forward to weekend PBS programming. Beginning on Friday with Off the Record, Washington Week, and Firing Line. Saturday highlights include PBS NewsHour Weekend, Father Brown, Midsomer Murders. Sunday evening favorites are Masterpiece shows such as Miss Scarlet and the Duke, All Creatures Great and Small, and Vienna Blood.
Michigan: An American Portrait documentary captures both legacy and hope, informa-on and entertainment. With a powerful score from Ann Arbor’s celebrated composer David BarreM and voice over readings from everyday Michiganders, the film celebrates what it means to be part of this extraordinary state. Unicorns and Heroes
John D. Rockefeller, Jr. and Tapestries at The Met Cloisters
APRIL 27
6:00p FIA Theater
This talk will explore the history of two unique sets of tapestries on view at The Met Cloisters, The Hunt for the Unicorn and the Heroes tapestries. The unicorn tapestries are among the most beautiful and complex works of art from the late Middle Ages that survive. Luxuriously woven in fine wool and silk with silver and gold threads, the tapestries vividly depict scenes associated with a hunt for the elusive, magical unicorn. The talk will explore how these works were made, their meaning, and the conservation work essential to their long-term preservation. The lecture will also highlight the role of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in creating The Met Cloisters and consider his involvement in the acquisition of these remarkable works of art.

WCMU Public Radio
Join us every Saturday evening for a mix of Traditional, Roots and Americana music!
Saturday at 6 p.m.
‘Homespun’ focuses on the “traditional” side of music, from early 78 rpm reissues to the contemporary music of today. Host Tom Ball says there are only two kinds of music: good music and bad music, and he strives to focus on the good each week!
Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Folk Alley Radio Show, hosted by Elena See, prides itself on playing the good stuff. You’ll hear traditional folk, contemporary singer/songwriters, roots, blues, bluegrass, Americana, Celtic – anything and everything that falls under the wide (and getting wider every day) “folk music” umbrella.
Saturday at 9 p.m.
The International Americana Music Show, presented by Michael Park, features Americana music made exclusively by non-American artists.
WCMU Classical features classical music
all day, every day.
Listen with your HD Radio throughout much of central and northern Michigan.
WCMU Classical Broadcast Map
You can find all the ways to listen to WCMU Classical at radio.WCMU.org/HowTo, including feature broadcasts like SymphonyCast and From the Top.
SymphonyCast, with host Julie Amacher, features a full-length concert by a major orchestra every Saturday night from 7 to 9 p.m. In recent weeks performances have come from the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and WDR Symphony Orchestra with violinist Augustin Hadelich.
From the Top is America’s largest national platform celebrating young classically trained musicians, empowering them to use their music and stories to engage and inspire audiences of all ages. Host Peter Dugan joins the fun from his piano Fridays at 3 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m.
Terry Gross, who has been host of Fresh Air since 1975, when it was broadcast only in greater Philadelphia, isn’t afraid to ask tough questions. But Gross sets an atmosphere in which her guests volunteer the answers rather than surrendering them. What often puts those guests at ease is Gross’ understanding of their work. “Anyone who agrees to be interviewed must decide where to draw the line between what is public and what is private,” Gross says. “But the line can shift, depending on who is asking the questions. What puts someone on guard isn’t necessarily the fear of being ‘found out.’ It sometimes is just the fear of being misunderstood.”
Weeknights at 7 p.m.
WCMU Public Radio Weekend Highlights

Michel Martin, NPR’s longtime weekend voice, joins ‘Morning Edition’
NPR’s Michel Martin, the long-time weekend host of All Things Considered and co-host of the Consider This podcast, is the newest voice weekday mornings on Morning Edition.
Martin, who joined NPR in 2006 says, “We all have things that we think we’re particularly good at and interested in. I’m just looking forward to adding my secret sauce.”
Morning Edition’s executive producer, Erika Aguilar, says Martin, who spent years covering politics and the White House for The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and ABC News before coming to NPR, brings a sharp eye to the morning show. Her first day on Morning Edition with co-hosts Steve Inskeep, A Martínez and Leila Fadel was March 27.
