Fresh Air with Terry Gross, the Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues, is one of public radio’s most popular programs. Each week, nearly 5 million people listen to the show’s intimate conversations. Fresh Air has been categorized as a “talk show,” it hardly fits the mold. Its 1994 Peabody Award citation credits Fresh Air with “probing questions, revelatory interviews and unusual insights.” And a variety of top publications count Gross among the country’s leading interviewers. The show gives interviews as much time as needed, and complements them with comments from well-known critics and commentators. Listen Monday through Friday at 4 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. on WCMU News & Talk. You can also explore over 40 years of interviews at freshairarchive.org.
Two great shows that sound great together!
The Planet Money team explains the economy with playful storytelling and Peabody award-winning deep dive, roll up your sleeves journalism. Guy Raz hosts How I Built This, where innovators, entrepreneurs, and idealists take us through the often-challenging journeys they took to build their now iconic companies.

MichiganNewsGroup WCMU Public Radio has quietly developed an innovative internship program to train young journalists in their craft. The Michigan News Group Internship is a partnership of WCMU, the Central Michigan University Department of Journalism and community newspapers. Selected students receive a paid summer internship, in which they produce broadcast stories for WCMU, print stories for their newspaper, and web content for both. The interns live in and report from the communities in which they’re assigned.
“The MI News Group internship is an innovative solution to one of the most serious problems facing young journalists in recent years. The wholesale collapse of local news in many Michigan communities.” Nate Payne, Editor Traverse City Record Eagle “The benefit to our local community is hard to put in words.” Kate Hessling, Editor Midland Daily News
Listen for their reports on WCMU, look to your community newspaper to read reports from your Michigan News Group Intern, or search “Michigan News Group” at radio.WCMU.org.
