Licensed to Thrill
Charlotte Rose x The Connor Brothers
Every generation rewrites the language of attraction.
Licensed to Thrill explores the choreography of desire—where seduction becomes a form of permission, an invitation to want without apology. Charlotte Rose and The Connor Brothers return to Austin to raise a glass to the stories we stage and the truths we swallow, inviting viewers into a world where danger is pleasure and seduction is intent.
Licensed to Thrill is a love letter to lust, power, and the stylish rush of not playing it safe. Wrapped in glamour and gleam, the works seduce at first glance—then press closer. Texts flirt and incriminate, while portraits hold their poise, tenderness flickering at the edges. Charlotte Rose and The Connor Brothers mine pop culture’s most seductive icons and give them new scripts: ones that understand irony as a form of armor and pleasure as a form of truth.
Charlotte Rose pulls apart advertising’s glossy façade, prescribing new truths to old illusions. Her bold, branded repetitions echo Warhol and Harland Miller, but point sharper toward mortality, desire, and the dangerous dreams we are sold, captivating a devoted following with her distinctive vision.
The Connor Brothers twist nostalgia into irony, their pulp-inspired works blurring truth and fiction. Retro covers and borrowed texts wink back with biting wit, their satire as seductive as it is sobering, often playing with themes of public and private persona. Beneath the punchlines lies a reminder: every story is a performance, every image a kind of invention.
Licensed to Thrill invites you to misbehave beautifully, to disregard the rules, reading between the brushstrokes to linger on what’s said, what’s shown, and what beckons just below the surface. Because truth, like beauty, is dangerous in the spotlight.

CHARLOTTE ROSE
British, b. 1998
Charlotte Rose is an emerging British pop artist known for her vibrant work that explores nostalgic branding and the deceptive allure of advertising. Rose works predominantly on vibrant large scale wooden panel and canvas and dances between the mediums of acrylic and oil. Since her first solo show in 2021, her work has attracted high-profile collectors such as Schoony, Yungblud, and Phoebe WallerBridge. She has collaborated with renowned brands such as Coach, Gucci, and Jo Malone .
Rose's art juxtaposes seductive visual aesthetics with darker themes, such as the harmful realities behind advertising’s glossy façade. Her work prescribes new truths to an old illusion, each painting an exploration of the 'dream' sold by companies to push poisonous goods. Influenced by pop culture icons like Andy Warhol and Harland Miller, Rose plays with repetition and branding in her bold and striking designs to reveal themes of mortality, fate, and desire.

THE CONNOR BROTHERS
British, b. 1968
The Connor Brothers is the pseudonym for British artists James Golding and Mike Snelle. The duo came to prominence in 2012 and for several years maintained their anonymity by using a fictional biography. Their identities were revealed in 2014 in a major feature by Mick Brown in The Telegraph magazine, allowing them to undertake more ambitious projects.
Best known for their Pulp Fiction series, the pair are also known for their activist work and their playful hoaxes. In 2014 they created a fictional museum -The Hanbury Collection, which fused truth and fiction in such a way as to render it impossible to work out which exhibits were real and which were not. This obsession with truth and fiction can be seen throughout their work, and is particularly relevant in the current climate of fake news, post-truth, and social media obsession.
The Connor Brothers have been amongst the most prominent artistic voices to comment on the refugee crisis. The duo worked for several years in The Jungle refugee camp in Calais building shelters and undertook an international billboard campaign highlighting the plight of displaced people - Refuchic. Closely associated with the Russian activist group Pussy Riot, The Connor Brothers produced their 2015 refugee themed theatrical performance at Banksy’s Dismaland. More recently they have teamed up with Professor Green and the mental health charity CALM to raise funds and awareness about the UK’s epidemic of male depression and suicide.
The Connor Brothers have exhibited internationally from New York, Sydney and Dubai to London, Hong Kong and Berlin. Their work frequently appears at major auction houses where a record price was achieved in 2020. Works can also be found in major public and private collections including The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Penguin Collection and both the Omer Koc and Niarchos Collections.
