


Newbeginningscanbechallenging! Justasnewschoolyearscanbe challengingforourkids,decidingto makechangesinourlivescanalsobe verychallenging.Evenifweknowthe changeisnecessaryinordertoleadto somethingwewant!ThatishowIfeel asIstartmyfinalyearwiththeWCA,I amfilledwithconflictingemotions.
ExcitementasIthinkaboutspending moretimewithmyfamilyandtaking leisurelytripsIhaveonlydreamedof duringmyworkingcareer-
andsadnesswhenIthinkofleavingbehindthedaytodayworkof supportingtheWCAteamandtheclientstheyserve. Mypassionfor thisworkhasnotdiminished,howeverIknowitistimeforsomeone elsetotakethelead.Havingthetimetomakethisathoughtful transitioniswhatIowemyBoard,myteamandmostimportantly ourclients.Thiswillbeabusyyearformanyreasons,howevermy focusremainsonensuringwecontinuetoadvocateforandsupport ourcoreservicesofsafety,healingandfreedom.Duringuncertain times,theconsistencywecanprovidetothosethatneedourhelpis agoalallofushereattheWCAstrivefor.
TheNon-ProfitLeaderwillRemainattheHelmUntilSummer2026
BeaBlack,whohasledtheWomen’sandChildren’sAlliance(WCA)forthepast 17years,hasannouncedtotheWCABoardofDirectorsthatsheplanstoretire insummer2026.
Beaisleavingalegacyofleadershipondomesticviolenceissuesandwill remaincommittedtohelpingthecommunityinotherways.Sheisexcitedto joinherhusbandinretirementandtospendmoretimewithhergrowing numberofgrandchildren.
AsBeaputsit,“I’vebeenhonoredandhumbledtodothisimportantworkfor almosttwodecades.IamsoproudoftheimpacttheteamattheWCAhashad onthelivesofsomany.Lettingsurvivorsknowtheyarenotalonehasinspired meeveryday.Thiscommunityhascometogethertobuildanetworkofsupport, resourcesandunderstandingtohelpsurvivorsregaintheirfreedomandheal.”
TheWCABoardofDirectorsisgratefulthatBeawillcontinueasCEOthroughthe organization’snextfiscalyeartoensureaseamlesstransitiontoitsnextleader. Beawillremainfocusedonfosteringstrongcommunitytiesandgrowingthe WCA’ssupportinordertoensurethesustainabilityofservicesthatarecritical forsomany.
TheboardwillcoordinatethesearchforthenextCEObeginninginmidSeptemberandwillbelookingforaninspiringleaderwhohasadeeppassion fortheWCA’smissionandanunderstandingoftheimportanceofcommunity connections.
UnderBea’sguidance,theWCAhasgrownitsimpactinseveralways, expandingtheservicesprovidedtothosedealingwithdomesticviolenceinthe TreasureValley.Someofherproudestaccomplishmentsincludeworkingwith theWCAboardtobuildatransitionalshelter–Laura’sHome–in2017,growing theWCA’sendowmentfundtomorethan$3.4million,andprovidingservices forexpandedneedsduringtheCOVID-19crisis.
DebraLeithauser,presidentoftheWCABoard,said,“Beaisanexcellentleader andcommunityconnector.Throughherleadership,countlessdomestic violencesurvivorsstartnewlivesfilledwithdignityandhope.It’simpossibleto quantifyherimpact.Iwishhertheverybestinhermuch-deservedretirement, andknowtheTreasureValleycommunitywillsupportherinhertransition,and continueitscriticalsupportoftheWCAmission.”
Wewanttoshareanimportantupdateaboutthefutureof WCA’sPreventionProgram.
Toensurecontinuedimpactandgrowth—especiallyfollowing recentstaffingchanges WCA’sPreventionProgram,including ourworkwithinresettledyouthandourYouthREPs,willbe transitioningtoTANTAInc.,alocalnonprofitfocusedonyouth empowermentandsupportingresettledcommunities.
We’rethrilledthatShannon,ourPreventionProgramSpecialist, willbecontinuingthisimportantworkwithTANTA,allowingfor consistencyanddeeperengagementwiththecommunityshe’s sopassionateabout.
WhileWCA’spreventionworkwilltakenewforms,our commitmenttoeducationandyouthoutreachremainsstrong. We'recurrentlyexploringnewstrategiestoexpandaccessto resourcesonsafety,mentalhealth,andhealthyrelationships.
