JulyisthestartoftheWCA’snewfiscal yearandatimeforustoreflectonhow thingswentduringthatyearwhilegetting readyfornewchallenges.Aswe highlightedthisphraseinallour communication:WEHEARYOU–WE BELIEVEYOU–WEAREHERE,we experiencedevengreaterdemandfor ourservices.

Callstoourhotlinesincreasedandwe sawwaitlistsforourcounselingandcase managementservicesincreaseaswell.

WhileIknowthatsomeoftheincreasesareduetogrowthinour community,Ialsobelievethattheincreasedcallforservices meansthatindividualsheardourmessageandtrustthatwe areheretohelpthem.

WhatIhaveheardsomanytimesfromsurvivorsisthattheyare ashamed,blamethemselvesandarenotsuretheywillbe believediftheydoreachout.Ourhopewiththismessagewas toopenthedoorforthosebraveenoughtomakethatfirstcall –tohelpthemreachout–andIbelieveitdiddojustthat.

Ittakesalotofcouragetodecidetomakethekindofchange thatourclientsdecidetomake.Weneedtobereadywhenthey arefinallyreadytoreachouttous.Thecompassionthatour teamshowseachclientandthecompassionourcommunity demonstratesbysupportingourworkiswhatmakeseachday sohumblingtome.Helpingourclientswiththedirectservices weofferandconnectingthemwithothercommunityresources sotheycanmovefromsurvivingtothriving,thatiswhatdrives eachofushereattheWCA.

Withanewyearcomenewchallengesandtheopportunityto continuelearningandgrowingandeverimproving.Thankyou forbeingpartofourjourney.

Whatayearithasbeen!

Ihavehadthepleasureofworkingwithover60CorporatePillars, including11newCPsthatmadeacommitmentthislastfiscalyear. Thiswonderfulgroupcontributedatsuchahighlevel,makingthisthe biggestyearfortheprograminitsentirehistory.Thisgenerosityis whatkeepsourmissionofsafety,healingandfreedomfrom domesticabuseandsexualassaultgoingstrong.

Notonlydidwehavearecord-breakingyearforfundraising,but manyotherexcitingmilestoneswerehit:

WehadthemostTWINswehaveeverhadinthe31yearsofthe awards,at54nomineesin2024.

ThenewHerolevelofCorporatePillarshipgrewfromtwotofive amazingorganizationsthisfiscalyear.

TheCPBenefitspacketfinallyhadafullrevampthisyear,makingit easierforourexistingCPstoutilizetheirbenefitsandprovidingafull overviewoftheprogramtoanyonewhoisinterestedintakingpart.

Asweheadintothenewfiscalyear,Iamexcitedforthisimpactful programtokeepgrowingandformoremilestonestobemet.Itgives mesomuchjoytodothis workthatIloveanditisall thankstothepassionate companiesand organizationsIgetto collaboratewith.Cheersto anothergreatyear!

TheWCA’smissionofsafety,healingand freedomfromdomesticabuseandsexual assaultholdsaspecialplaceinCourtney’s heart.Shefeels,“itistrulyanhonoranda privilegetoservemycommunityinsucha capacity.”

Inherfreetime,Courtneyisworkingon writingabook.Shespendsmuchofher timecaringforherbeautiful Newfoundland,BeauBear.

Courtney’spassionforcommunityengagement,healthy relationshipsandvolunteeringmakeherawonderful additiontothephilanthropyteam! Shereadsvoraciously,paints,rollerstakesandmakespottery. Courtneylovesallthingscreativeandlovestolearnnewhobbies, suchasmakingbooknooksandcrochet.

CLINICALTEAMCHECK-IN

Genderinclusivityisvitalinasupportgroupforsurvivorsofsexual assaultanddomesticviolencetoensureallindividuals,regardlessof genderidentity,feelvalidatedandsafe.

Byembracingdiversegenderidentities,thegroupfostersa supportiveenvironmentwhereeverysurvivorcansharetheir experienceswithoutfearofjudgmentormarginalization.

Thisinclusivitynotonlysupportsindividualhealingbutalso challengessocietalnormsthatperpetuatediscriminationand violencebasedongender,promotingamoreequitableand compassionatecommunity.
