COVID-19 Immunisation Clinical Toolkit

This Toolkit provides key clinical information required pre- and post-vaccination. It is designed to help frontline clinical staff provide ‘on the day’ efficient and safe COVID-19 immunisation.

Important reminders
• To provide sufficient pre- and post-vaccination advice in line with guidance (pages 6-9). • Label every syringe with vaccine details. • Prepare different vaccines in separate designated preparation areas.
• Check emergency equipment is age appropriate eg,
Paediatric bag valve mask resuscitator (page 10). • Rotate vaccine stock, regularly check expiry dates, and remove expired vaccine from cold chain.
• Review instructions (page 9) to ensure that you are correctly identifying the injection site to avoid potential vaccine administration harm.
• All vaccines must be entered under the vaccinator’s CIR login. Do not share your login.
Omicron and booster doses
Pfizer/BioNTech 12+ boosters are now given from 3 months after completion of primary course (page 7).

• Paediatric Pfizer/BioNTech vaccination is now available.

Who can administer Paediatric Pfizer?
Full and Provisional Authorised Vaccinators AND vaccinating Pharmacists can give Paediatric Pfizer/ BioNTech provided they have completed the online Paediatric COVID-19 Vaccinator Education Course (tinyurl. com/927r8wu9) and gained the certificate of competence.
A Covid-19 Vaccinator Working Under Supervision is NOT able to administer Paediatric Pfizer/BioNTech.
