This tournament serves to keep alive the memory of one of Wynberg’s finest chess players, who died tragically while still at school. Jamie was a wonderful young man, a member of the WP Chess team, and had been appointed as a Prefect at the end of his Grade 11 year in 2007, but drowned during the December holidays.
Rules
1. Six players per team.
2. Playing time of 30 minutes per player (30-30)for the first 5 rounds, and 45 minutes per player (45-45)for the final 2 rounds - with no increments. Captains choose colours at the start of every round - players alternate colours within the team, i.e., 3 play white and 3 play black.
3. 16 Game Points are allocated as follows: Board 1 - 4 Game Points, Boards 2 & 3 - 3 Game Points each, Boards 4 to 6 - 2 Game Points each. If two players draw, they share the Game Points. A team needs to win more than 8 Game Points to win the match.
4. The winning team is allocated 2 Match Points; a draw earns each team 1 Match Point.
5. The top 2 teams in each pool, based on Match Points, will play in the semifinals. If 2 teams tie on Match Points, then total Game Points are considered. If Game Points are tied, then the total number of actual wins will be considered. If there is still a tie at this stage, the lowest board's result will be ignored, and this process will continue until a winner is determined.
6. The Tournament winner is the team winning the final. If 2 teams tie on Game Points, then the total number of actual wins will be considered. If there is still a tie at this stage, then the lowest board's result will be ignored until a winner is determined.
