WBJS Grey Weekend 2026

WELCOME TO THE WBJS GREY SPORT & CULTURAL WEEKEND 2026

The strong bond with our brother school, Grey from Gqeberha, continues as we anticipate their arrival at Wynberg this coming weekend. The excitement of this occasion is shared among the boys, staff and parents across Wynberg Boys’ Junior School. This Grey Sport & Cultural weekend is about more than just the competition; it truly embodies the spirit of fair play, resilience and unity that characterise boys’ schools. A key highlight of this event is that every boy has the chance to experience the "tour/derby" atmosphere, unlike many fixtures where this opportunity is limited to the U13A squads. Thank you to our Sports and Cultural Departments at both Grey and Wynberg for their meticulous planning to ensure this complex logistical undertaking runs without a hitch. The seamless experience we hope you will enjoy is the culmination of months of dedicated behind-the-scenes effort. We are thankful to our parents who generously open their homes to host our guests and provide invaluable assistance. This event would not be possible without your support. Likewise, we appreciate the Grey families who extend their hospitality and care for our boys during our visits to Gqeberha.

We eagerly anticipate renewing existing friendships and forging new ones. While we will challenge each other to excel, let the ethos of good sportsmanship remain at the centre of all we do.

Supera Moras!

Mr Cedric Poleman

Wynberg Boys’ Junior School proudly acknowledges and thank our learners for embodying the Supera Moras spirit and representing the school with pride.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Wynberg families who are generously opening their homes to host the Grey Junior boys. Your hospitality truly reflects the heart of our community. Our appreciation goes to the Parent Association for their commitment and effort in ensuring our guests from Gqeberha experienced genuine Wynberg warmth.

To our media team photographers, thank you for so beautifully capturing the special moments and memories of the weekend. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, Suzuki Kenilworth, Vida E Caffe Kenilworth, and Rosy's Event Design & Decor for your generous contributions in making the Wynberg Grey Sport & Cultural Weekend such a memorable success. A special thank you to Suzuki Kenilworth for their valued sponsorship of the #WynbergMedia vehicle. We are excited to host Grey Junior at our Cross Country race this year! The races will take place at Wynberg Boys’ High School along the mountain biking track on Friday, 15 May, at 14h00. Races will start on the famous Hawthornden Field, and the course features a variety of twists and turns, offering a true Cross Country experience that will challenge and inspire all runners.

We wish our Cross Country boys the very best. Represent WBJS with pride, run with determination and enjoy the opportunity to compete alongside our Eastern Cape brothers. Supera Moras!

Amy Strybis

It is with immense excitement that we warmly welcome Grey Junior to our Astros, particularly in this special milestone year as we proudly celebrate our 185th anniversary. This highly anticipated weekend is a highlight on our calendar, part of a rich tradition and a fiercely proud rivalry between the two schools, an occasion that every Wynberg boy eagerly and enthusiastically looks forward to each year.

Over the weekend, teams from U10 to U13 will take to the Astro with great determination and spirit, competing across three outstanding astros: Wynberg Astros (1 & 2) and the Springfield Astro. The

atmosphere promises to be electric as players showcase their skill, teamwork, and passion for the game.

We wish all the teams the very best as they represent their schools with pride. Play hard, support one another, and most importantly, enjoy every moment. Let the games be played in great spirit; let hockey be the true winner, and may the weekend be filled with unforgettable experiences and lasting memories.

Mrs Carmen Bradford Headof Hockey

WELCOME TO THE WBJS GREY SPORT & CULTURAL WEEKEND 2026

The Music Department is delighted to be part of this year’s Grey Culture and Sporting programme, celebrating a meaningful and enriching collaboration between our two prestigious institutions. We look forward to welcoming Mr Etienne Mecloen and the Grey Concert Band to our campus, as it was at this very concert last year, where our new Head of Music was announced. This partnership provides a valuable platform for cultural exchange, fostering not only musical growth but also continued camaraderie and mutual respect among our music learners. It is also an opportunity for the boys to be exposed to different styles of music and teaching across provinces.

A highlight of the weekend will be the combined concert, which will be held in the Arnold Lorie Hall at 17h00 on Friday, 15 May 2026. The concert will end with two combined pieces, with both bands performing together on stage. This event promises to showcase the talent, discipline, and passion of our young musicians as they come together in a spirit of unity through music. We encourage all our parents, guardians and members of our school community to attend and support this special concert. It is through such collaborations that we continue to build a vibrant and inspiring musical culture, one that extends beyond our own campus and into the broader educational community.

Hosting the Grey Weekend is always a highlight on the school calendar and this year is even more special as we celebrate our 185th anniversary. The competition between the two schools on the rugby field is getting tighter each year, and we envision even greater competition in 2026. I would like to wish all the boys playing during the weekend the best of luck.

Go out there and give it your all. Take this opportunity to showcase the talent you have been given to the best of your ability. To the parents on the sideline, please spectate in a manner that allows the

Mr Marc Sabatta Head of Rugby boys to play their game without feeling pressured or anxious to disappoint anyone. At the end of the day, this is just a game!

Welcoming our visiting team for the squash fixture is always a highlight of the school calendar, and this year is particularly meaningful as we celebrate our 185th anniversary. The level of competition between the two schools continues to improve each year, and we look forward to more exciting contests in 2026.

To all the boys taking part in the weekend, I wish you the very best. Use this opportunity to demonstrate your talent and perform to the very best of your ability.
