Statewide Health Improvement Plan (SHIP)

A Model of Excellence Among Learning Communities

What is SHIP?  A two year grant from Hennepin County public health.  Requires district implement or strengthen existing policies for tobacco prevention, healthy eating, and physical activity.  Wellness committee formed and web page developed to address SHIP initiatives and ongoing wellness issues.

Tobacco-free policy  Message read at all sporting events: “For the safety of our students, Wayzata School District is proud to have a 100% tobacco-free school policy. At this time, we would like to remind our home fans and visitors that the use of any/all tobacco products is strictly prohibited on school property. We appreciate your support and would like to thank you for keeping our school and entire campus tobacco-free.

SHIP: Non-Food Rewards  During the academic school day, schools will not use foods or beverages as rewards for academic performance or good behavior.  Teachers are also encouraged to use physical activity as a reward for academic performance or good behavior, as appropriate.
