A Note to the Reader This Comprehension-basedTM reader contains high-frequency vocabulary and countless cognates (words that are similar in two languages), making it an ideal read for beginning students.

M PL

E

All vocabulary is listed in the glossary. Keep in mind that many verbs are listed in the glossary more than once, as most appear throughout the book in various forms and tenses. (Example: I go, I went, he goes, let’s go, etc.) Language that would be considered beyond a ‘novicemid’ level is footnoted within the text, and the meaning given at the bottom of the page where the expression first occurs.

This is the second edition of Le Vol des oiseaux. We hope you enjoy the story!

Chapitre 1 Au Cameroun !

1

bâtiments - buildings 6

Chapitre 2

– Enchanté Monsieur Essama. Je vous présente ma fille, Nathalie. – Bienvenue au Cameroun, Nathalie. Enchanté.

Monsieur Essama a dit :

E

– Merci, enchantée, a répondu Nathalie.

M PL

– Pourquoi crient-ils ? a demandé Nathalie.

SA

– Crier est leur manière de communiquer. Ils ne crient pas. Ils communiquent ! a expliqué Tavon. »
