With God, there is forgiveness. With God, there is steadfast love. With God there is great power to redeem. We wait for the Lord, who is our hope. Through the long night, we watch for God, more passionately than for the sun's first light.

Arr. Hal Hopson (b. 1933)
+ Hymn 4: GROSSER GOTT, WIR LOBEN DICH Holy God, We Praise Your Name
+ Call to Confession
+ Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, have mercy on us. We have failed to be faithful to you, though you have been faithful to us. You show us your wisdom, but we prefer to go our own way. Our broken relationships with you and one another have created poverty in us and our neighbors. In your mercy, reconcile us to you and one another for the work of justice, peace, and love, through Jesus Christ, our redeemer. Amen.
+ Declaration of Forgiveness
Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

Time for Reflection
Affirmation of Faith | The Confession of 1967, 9.15
God’s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of the human mind. Human thought ascribes to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. God’s love is revealed in Jesus Christ by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful humanity. The power of God’s love in Christ to transform the world discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of this love.
