Words of Welcome

+ Call to Worship

If God is like a mother hen, we are under God’s wing. If God is like a long table, we each have a seat. If God is like a house, we are safe from the storm. If God is like a party, we’re invited to dance!

If God is like a sweet melody, our names are the lyrics. This is God’s house, where all are welcomed, all are loved, all belong. Let us worship God.

+ Hymn 394: WESTMINSTER ABBEY Christ is Made the Sure Foundation

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Gracious God, we so often miss your kingdom at work among us. Captivated by power and prestige, we overlook the mustard seeds you have planted all around. Forgive us for failing to notice where and how you are at work. Forgive us when we work against your plans and purposes— fostering divisions when you have called us to a ministry of reconciliation; beset by apathy when the world has such deep needs; building walls to keep people out when your branches offer generous nests. Help us to grow in faithfulness, we pray, so that we might reach our fullest height of faith. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

Time for Reflection

Affirmation of Faith | 1 Cor. 15:1–6; Mark 16:1–9; Matt. 16:16; Rev. 22:13; John 20:28

This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved, if we hold it fast: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God. Amen.

Many in this community are in need of fans including those who suffer from asthma or other illnesses, those with young children, pregnant women, and senior citizens. Our goal is to collect 100 fans, or funds to purchase as many, by July 7. If you have fans or air conditioners to donate, you can call the Church Office to arrange drop off. You can also contribute to the Fan Fund by check made payable to the WPC and putting FAN in the memo line, or give online by selecting the CityLights fund.
