+ Call to Worship
God calls us to worship, some with songs of laughter and joy. And we come.
God calls us to worship, some with hearts heavy full of grief. And we come.
God calls us to worship, some with eagerness and hope. And we come.
God calls us to worship, some with distraction and exhaustion. And we come.
As God’s dearly beloved children, we are called to this place just as we are. Let us worship God.
+ Hymn 409:
ABBOT’S LEIGH God is Here
+ Call to Confession
+ Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, who sets the sun and stars above us, mountains and valleys around us, neighbors and friends in our midst, how often we try to hide from your presence and fall short of welcoming others in your name. Lord, have mercy upon us.
Like your servant Paul, we know the good you ask of us. Yet, also like Paul, we do not do the good we want to do. As the prophet Micah exhorts, we do not seek justice, mercy, nor do we walk humbly with you. We forget you and rely instead upon ourselves. We mistreat and ignore the needs of others. Christ, have mercy upon us.
Forgive us, oh Lord. Call us back to your will and purpose for your lives. Guide our path and may your Spirit be a loving light for our daily steps. Lord, have mercy upon us.
And hear our prayer, oh Lord, for we ask it in Christ’s name. Amen.
+ Declaration of Forgiveness
Friends, hear the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
+ Response of Praise: Hymn 581 GLORIA

In Thee, O Lord, Have I Trusted
Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713)
In Thee, O Lord, in Thee have I trusted; let me not be put to shame. Thou art my trust from my youth; O my God, make haste for my help.
Sermon | Rev. Katy Shevel | “Some Weeding Required”
Time for Reflection
+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
