Prelude | Wayne Presbyterian Chamber Orchestra | Joseph Kauffman, conductor

Intermezzo , Op. 118 , No. 2

+ Call to Worship

O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! For the Lord is a great God; a great ruler over heaven and earth!

+ Hymn 268:

Crown Him with Many Crowns

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession + Please stand as you are able.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)

Arr. By Julien Tattevin

Lord Jesus, Judge and Ruler of the nations: We confess that we have not seen your face among our neighbors in need. We have not shared our food with the hungry; we have not offered clothes to the destitute or shelter to the homeless. We have not welcomed the stranger, nor have we visited prisoners. We have not paid attention to these, your sisters and brothers, and in our neglect we have failed to serve you. Lord, have mercy on us; open our eyes to recognize your image in others, and to love our neighbors as ourselves as you have commanded us to do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Believe the Good News: In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise: Hymn 581

GLORIA PATRI

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading | Psalm 19

+ Hymn: KREMSER We Gather Together Words

Scripture Reading | Philippians 4: 4-7

Anthem | Octet

An Anthem , for Thanksgiving

William Billings (1746-1800) from The Continental Harmony (1794)

O praise the Lord of Heaven , praise him in the height, praise him in the depth, O praise the Lord of Heaven. Praise him all ye angels, praise Jehovah. Praise him sun and moon and blazing comets , Praise the Lord. Let them praise the name of the Lord , For he spake the word and all were made , He commanded and they were created. Admire , adore. Ye dragons whose contagious breath peoples the dark abodes of death , Change your dire hissings into heavenly songs, and praise your maker with your forked tongues. O praise the Lord of Heaven. Fire , hail , and snow , wind and storms , beasts and cattle , creeping insects , flying fowl , kings and princes, men and angels, praise the Lord. Jew and Gentile , male and female , bond and free , earth and heaven , land and water , praise the Lord. Young men and maids , old men and babes , praise the Lord. Join creation , preservation, and redemption join in one: no exemption, nor dissension , one invention and intention reigns through the whole , to praise the Lord. Hallelujah, praise the Lord!

Sermon | The Rev. Ryan Balsan | “Rejoice? In Every Season“

Time for Reflection

+ Affirmation of Faith | from The Confession of 1967 | continued on next page God’s redeeming work in Jesus Christ embraces the whole of human life: social and cultural, economic and political, scientific and technological, individual and corporate. It includes the natural environment as exploited and despoiled by sin. It is the will of God that the divine purpose for human life shall be fulfilled under the rule of Christ and all evil be banished from creation. Biblical visions and images of the rule of Christ, such as a heavenly city, the household of God, a new heaven and earth, a marriage feast, and an unending day culminate in the image of the kingdom. The kingdom represents God’s triumph over all that resists the divine will and disrupts God’s creation. Already God’s reign is present

+ Affirmation of Faith | continued from previous page

as a ferment in the world, stirring hope in all people and preparing the world to receive its ultimate judgment and redemption. With an urgency born of this hope, the church applies itself to present tasks and strives for a better world. It does not identify limited progress with the kingdom of God on earth, nor does it despair in the face of disappointment and defeat. In steadfast hope, the church looks beyond all partial achievement to the final triumph of God. Now to him who by the power within us is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
