Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Prelude | John Grecia, organ

Andante Con Moto Christopher Tambling (b. 1964)

+ Call to Worship

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth!

Worship the Lord with gladness and joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God.

We are God’s people, the sheep of the Lord’s pasture.

Enter the Lord’s gates with thanksgiving and praise.

Give thanks to the Lord, all the earth. God’s steadfast love endures forever

+ Hymn 663: MORNING HYMN Awake , My Soul , and with the Sun

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession + Please stand as you are able.

Gracious God, we confess that often we have failed to respond thankfully and obediently to your Word. Open our eyes, that we may see you in the ones we say we love. Open our ears, that we may be quicker to listen than to speak. Open our mouths to speak words of kindness and gentleness rather than words of anger and hate. Open our hands to generosity and service of others. Forgive us and free us, merciful Lord, to live lives of thanksgiving and joyful obedience. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Friends, hear the Good News of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

+ Response of Praise: Hymn 581

GLORIA PATRI

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Quartet Anthem

Light Everlasting

Olaf C. Christiansen (1901-1984)

O Light everlasting, O Love never failing, illuminate our darkness and draw us to Thee. May we from Thy spirit receive inspiration that brethren together Thy wisdom may see. Make known to all nations , Thy peace and salvation , and help us , O Father , Thy temple to be. O Light everlasting, O Love never failing, illuminate our darkness and draw us to Thee.

Sermon | The Rev. Katy Shevel | “Facing Your ‘Not Enough’ “

Time for Reflection

+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Anthem | 9:30 Chancel Choir | 11:00 Quartet + Choral Scholars

Mumford & Sons (2009)/Arr. John Grecia Awake My Soul

How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes. I struggle to find any truth in your lies. And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know. My weakness I feel I must finally show. Lend me your hand and we'll conquer them all. But lend me your heart and I'll just let you fall. Lend me your eyes I can change what you see. But your soul you must keep, totally free. Awake my soul , awake my soul. In these bodies we will live , in these bodies we will die. Where you invest your love , you invest your life. Awake my soul , awake my soul. For you were made to meet your maker.
