Sunday, March 23, 2025 Third Sunday in Lent

+ Please stand as you are able.

+ Call to Worship

The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech nor are there words, yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. Let us worship the Lord together!

+ Hymn:

(Haydn) The Spacious Firmament on High

CREATION
Prelude | John Grecia, organ
Richard Pantcheff (b. 1959)
Lenten Passacaglia

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Holy God, we confess that we have grown complacent in our response to you. You set before us a rich feast of blessing, but we are drawn to lesser things that cannot satisfy. You call us to attend to urgent needs in the world, but we indulge our own desires. Our ways are not your ways; our thoughts do not ascend to your thoughts. Forgive us when we fall short of your claim upon our lives. Disturb our complacency and quicken our desire for a more fruitful life. By the power of your Spirit at work in us, amend who we are, so that we might become who you intend us to be. We ask this in the name of our Savior, your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Know that you are forgiven, and be at peace. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise: What Wondrous Love is This (Verse 2)

WONDROUS LOVE

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Words of Welcome & Announcements | Rev. Ryan Balsan

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading | Psalm 6:1-8

+ Hymn 417: SOUTHWELL Lord Jesus, Think on Me

Scripture Reading | Matthew 8:28-9:8

Anthem | Quartet

Haste Thee , O God Adrian Batten (1591-1637)

Haste Thee , O God to deliver me , make haste to help me. Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul. Let them for their reward be soon brought to shame , that cry over me: "There , there , there." But let all those who seek thee be joyful and glad in thee , and let all such as delight in thy salvation say always: "The Lord be praised!" Amen.

Sermon | “Trouble By the Lake” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan

Time for Reflection

Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Anthem | 9:30AM Chancel Choir | 11:00AM Quartet + Choral Scholars

My God is a Rock Trad. Spiritual/Arr. by Gary Walth (b. 1953)

My God is a rock , God is a rock , my God is a rock in a weary land. God is a rock , my God is a rock; a shelter in the time of storm. I ask my God to guide me while in this world I dwell; to show the way to heaven above and avoid the depths of hell. My God is great and mighty, a God of priceless worth; a God of love , a God of hope, who will bring peace to the earth. And when the storms are raging, and despair is everywhere, I feel blest knowing I'm a child of God , and I'm safe , of , so safe in God's care. My God is a rock , God is a rock , my God is a rock in a weary land. God is a rock , my God is a rock; a shelter in the time of storm.
