Transfiguration of the Lord

Prelude | Wayne Presbyterian Chamber Orchestra | Joseph Kauffman, director Nursery Suite , Mvt. 1 (Awake) Edward Elgar (1857-1924) + Please stand as you are able.

+ Call to Worship

From the rising of the sun to its setting

The Lord’s name is great among the nations.

+ Hymn 260:

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, in your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue lay waste to the land and pollute the seas. The fears and jealousies that we harbor set neighbor against neighbor. We abuse your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression.

Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve you in the world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise: Christ is the World’s True Light

ST. JOAN

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

It is a Precious Thing

Moravian/Johann Friedrich Peter (1746-1813)

It is a precious thing when the heart is fixed and trusteth in God; through the mercy of God and our Saviour , Jesus Christ. My heart is resting, O my Saviour , In Thy loving care , My trust is ever stayed on Thee; O hear my earnest prayer That ever faithful I may be , and ever do Thy will; O grant this in Thy mercy still , Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sermon | The Rev. Ryan Balsan | “The Right Path”

Time for Reflection

Affirmation of Faith | A selection from, ‘A Brief Statement of Faith’

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believersin the one body of Christ, the Church. The same Spiritwho inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church. In a broken and fearful worldthe Spirit gives us courageto pray without ceasing,to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,to unmask idolatries in Church and culture,to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
