Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)
LYONS
Merciful God, we try to hide from your presence, knowing that we have traded your abundant life for the ways of sin. We have not followed your will, but instead listen to other voices and pursue our own desires at the expense of others. We are so misguided that we sometimes cannot tell the difference between good and evil. Give us the courage to tell the truth about ourselves: all that we have done that violates your will, and the things we have left undone that you invite us to do. Grant your forgiveness and restore us, so that we can know and do your will in our lives. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
+ Declaration of Forgiveness Sisters and brothers, God forgives us and restores us, strengthening us so that we can live lives that please the Lord. Friends, believe the Good News: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.
+ Response of Praise GLORIA PATRI (Greatorex)

+ Passing of the Peace
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

Time for Reflection
+ Affirmation of Faith | The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

O for a Closer Walk with God
Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924)
O for a closer walk with God , a calm and heavenly frame; a light to shine upon the road that leads me to the Lamb! Return , O holy dove , return , sweet messenger of rest; I hate the sins that made thee mourn and drove thee from my breast. So shall my walk be close with God , calm and serene my frame; so purer light shall mark the road that leads me to the Lamb. - William Cowper (1731-1800)
