+ Call to Worship

Seventh Sunday after Epiphany

Aaron David Miller (b. 1974) + Please stand as you are able.

Praise the Lord, all you nations!

Extol him all you people!

For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!

+ Hymn 610: AZMON O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you. We humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God. Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness. In your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Do not cast us away from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and sustain us by your bountiful Spirit. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Know that you are forgiven and be at peace. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise: Christ is the World’s True Light

Sing unto the Lord , ye that are his saints: and give thanks with a remembrance of his holiness. The Lord hath heard me , and hath taken mercy upon me. The Lord is made my helper. Thou hast turned my sorrow into joy. Thou hath put off my sackcloth and hast compassed me with gladness, that my glory may sing to thee without grief. O Lord my God , I shall evermore give thanks to thee.

Sermon | The Rev. Ryan Balsan | “Direct Action”

Time for Reflection

Affirmation of Faith | A selection from, ‘A Brief Statement of Faith’

We trust in God,whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world goodand makes everyone equally in God's imagemale and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator.Ignoring God's commandments,we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care.We deserve God's condemnation.Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant peopleto bless all families of the earth.Hearing their cry,God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage.Loving us still,God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant.Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home,God is faithful still.
