Meditation on “My Lord , What a Morning”
+ Call to Worship
Traditional Spiritual Setting: Dennis Janzer (b. 1954)
Make a joyful noise to theLord, all the earth. Worship theLordwith gladness; come into his presence with singing. Know that theLord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.
For theLordis good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
+ Hymn 645: MIT FREUDEN ZART Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above
+ Call to Confession
+ Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment.
Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. Amen.
+ Declaration of Forgiveness
By the grace of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.
+ Response of Praise: Christ is the World’s True Light

What a Friend We Have in Jesus
Text: Joseph M. Scriven (1819-1886)
Music: Charles C. Converse (1832-1918)
Setting & Additional Text: Joel Raney (b. 1956)
Everything. Give him everything. All your worry, all your care. God wants everything. Give him everything. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer. O what peace we often forfeit , O what needless pain we bear , all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Have we trails and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged. Take it to the Lord in prayer. Are we weak and heavy laden , cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior , still our refuge. Take it to the Lord in Prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? In his arms he’ll take and shield you. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
