When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

+ Call to Worship

Hymn Tune: Lowell Mason (1792-1872)

Setting: Dan Goeller (2009)

Rejoice in theLord, Oyou righteous. Praise befits the upright. Praise theLordwith the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. For the word of theLordis upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of theLord.

+ Hymn 662: RATISBON Christ , Whose Glory Fills the Skies

+ Call to Confession

+ Prayer of Confession

Almighty and merciful God, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.

O Lord, have mercy upon us. Forgive those who confess their faults.

Restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to the world in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O Merciful Father, for his sake, that we may live a holy, just, and humble life to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

+ Declaration of Forgiveness

Do not fear, says the Lord, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. God is doing a new thing; now it springs forth! By the grace of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

+ Response of Praise: What Wondrous Love is This (Verse 4)

+ Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Jesus, Joy of Loving Hearts

Allen Orton Gibbs (1910-1996)

O Jesus, joy of loving hearts , the fount of life and our true light, we seek the peace your love imparts, and stand rejoicing in your sight. Adoramus te , Domine. For you our restless spirits yearn where e ' er our changing lot is cast; glad when your presence we discern , blest , when our faith can hold you fast. Adoramus te , Domine. O Jesus, ever with us stay; make all our moments calm and bright; oh , turn the dark of night away, shed o ' er the world your holy light. Adoramus te , Domine. - attr. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153)

Sermon | “To the Dogs” | The Rev. Ryan Balsan

Time for Reflection

Affirmation of Faith | The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

O F Y O U T H M I N I S T R Y

We value the future of our church, and we are committed to building a sustainable and strategic youth ministry that is going to have a deep impact. That’s why we are developing a game plan together as we work to hire a new youth director. We have invited Ministry Architects to visit us on April 10 to help us do this strategic work and begin a search process.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THEM AT WWW.MINISTRYARCHITECTS.COM

Ministry Architects will spend time listening and learning about our youth ministry. We hope to see participation from a variety of listening groups representing a broad spectrum of members, regular attenders, volunteers, leadership, youth, and any other stakeholders. We want your insights, your frustrations, and your dreams to be heard. After spending time with these groups, the Ministry Architects consultant will write a report, sharing with us what they’ve heard about the church’s youth ministry – including assets, challenges, and how we compare to other churches around the country –and where it seems that God might be taking us next.

This report will be a great foundation for our search process, as the Ministry Architects team guides us in our next steps with the youth ministry. If you would like to be part of this process and have your voice heard, please contact Kelli Masters at kelli@waynepres.org.
