Impact of Grantmaking 2022
In 2022, the Wayne County Foundation took a new approach to grantmaking. Organizations are able to seek a variety of grants three times per year. Mini, Crisis, Impact and Nonprofit Support grants provided funding opportunities to a wider array of nonprofit organizations throughout the year.
Our grantmaking is made possible through the generosity of donors that have established funds at the Foundation.

Hope House
Hope House is Wayne County’s only homeless shelter and residential recovery center specifically for men. Since 2001, the shelter was housed on the campus of the Richmond State Hospital. Following a successful capital campaign, supported by a Foundation grant of $25,000, Hope House moved to their new facility on North 10th Street in Richmond. The new facility will better serve their clients and provide increased flexibility to better meet participant needs. Hope House is positioned to increase their positive impact on our community in 2023 and beyond.
“We have served more than 2,000 people since we opened our doors 22 years ago and couldn’t do it without community partners like the Wayne County Foundation,” said Hope House Executive Director Whitney Mays. “We take their faith in us seriously - we squeeze every last inch out of every last penny.”

The finished space includes sleeping quarters, a common area for classes and meals, and office space for staff.
