Father’s Day celebrations began on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it wasn’t until 1972 that a day honoring fathers became a national holiday. Since then, children have been trying to figure out how they can show their dads and other father figures in their lives just how much they are appreciated. Plenty of hugs and high fives are customary on Father’s Day, but gifts also get the spotlight on
this holiday, which is held on the third Sunday in June each year.
Each year families ponder what to get the man who seemingly has everything. These Father’s Day gifts are certain to please Dad this year.
Gaming gifts
The joy of gaming may not wane as Dad gets older. Once a gamer, always a gamer, and gifts that cater to Dad’s love of play can be winners. Pay attention to the release dates of
games that Dad wants to play, and then make sure to grab them before they sell out. Peripherals that can enhance gaming also can be ideal gifts. These include Bluetooth headphones with microphone, controller charging stations, light-up keyboards, or a comfortable gaming chair.
Sports tickets
Experiential gifts continue to win rave reviews, as people increasingly are finding that adding more “stuff” to their lives does not equate to happiness. Rather, gifts that focus on experiences instead of material things can produce lasting memories. Father’s Day is a good time to grab tickets to an upcoming sports game, whether it’s a high-profile Major League Baseball game at the stadium, a local event or overseas affair. Father’s Day around the world
Many countries around the world celebrate Father’s Day, but not all of them do so in June. The most common date for Father’s Day celebrations is the third Sunday of June, when the U.S. and Canada celebrate the holiday. In 2025, that day will be June 15th. Many European countries with sizable Catholic populations, such as Spain, Italy and Portugal, celebrate Father’s Day on March 19th, which is known as St. Joseph’s Day on the Catholic liturgical calen-
dar. St. Joseph was the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus
Christ, so he is widely recognized as the patron saint of fathers. In Scandinavian countries, Father’s Day is the second Sunday in November, which many believe to be an attempt to boost the economy during a month when retail businesses are not particularly busy. In Germany, Father’s Day is tied to Ascension Day, which
comes on the fortieth day of Easter. Australia and New Zealand celebrate dads on the first Sunday of September, while Brazil celebrates Father’s Day on the second Sunday of August. No matter when Father’s Day falls, the holiday marks a great time to show dads just how special and loved they are.
Father’s Day is a celebration of dads near and far. Falling on the third Sunday of June each year, Father’s Day presents an opportunity for families to come together and put the spotlight on fathers who work tirelessly for their children and provide them with love and support. Father’s Day also is a chance to honor the men who serve as father figures or play special roles in people’s lives.
It’s easy for families to fall into a routine when it comes to celebrating Father’s Day. Certainly dinner and giftgiving is traditional, but there are additional ways to provide Dad with the day he deserves. Explore these creative options.
Set up a scavenger hunt
Drag out the suspense of Dad getting his Father’s Day gift by hiding it and requiring him to go through a series of clues to find it. When writing up the clue cards, spouses and children can reference particularly happy moments or things around the house that are representative of Dad’s love. For example, a clue may read, “Here’s where we like to snuggle together to watch our favorite show.”

to go off-roading on quads or try his skills at hatchetthrowing? The family can get together and choose an activity Dad will find engaging and that everyone can enjoy. Make it a beach day Dad might just want a break from the hectic pace of life on Father’s Day. This is the perfect opportunity to head oceanside. For those who don’t live by the coast, a river or lakefront spot can be an ideal alternative. Frequently these are touristy areas, so it could be relatively easy to find an eatery where everyone can make a reservation for lunch or dinner after enjoying a relaxing day with waves lapping the shore. These are just a few clever ways to celebrate Father’s Day. Families can choose activities that honor fathers and ensure he is feeling all the love.
The heart of the Father
June is a special month as we celebrate Father’s Day and honor the men who have impacted our lives. While earthly fathers play an important role, no father can compare to the perfect love of our Heavenly Father. His heart is filled with compassion, mercy, protection, and unconditional love for His children. Many people view God through the lens of their earthly experiences. Some were blessed with loving fathers who encouraged and guided them. Others experienced absence, disappointment, or even hurt. Yet regardless of our earthly experiences, God’s heart toward us never changes. He is the perfect Father who loves us completely and faithfully.
Psalm 103:8 (NLT) states, “The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
One of the most beautiful pictures of the Father’s heart is found in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. After wasting his inheritance and making poor decisions, the son finally returned home expecting rejec-
tion. Instead, his father ran to meet him, embraced him, and celebrated his return. This story reveals God’s desire to restore rather than condemn. Even when we wander, his arms remain open. God’s love is not based on our performance. We do not earn his affection through good works, perfect behavior, or spiritual accomplishments.
THE CROSS
The greatest demonstration of the Father’s heart was the sacrifice of his Son. At the cross, we see the depth of God’s love. I John 4:10 (NLT) tells us, “This is real love - not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” Through Christ’s death and resurrection, we have been adopted into God’s family and are no longer strangers or outsiders. We belong to him. Perhaps today you need reassurance of the Father’s love. Maybe you feel forgotten, discouraged, or unworthy. Remember this truth: He is not looking for reasons to reject you; he is continually extending grace. As we reflect on the Father’s heart this month, may we rest in his love, trust his care, and draw near to him. The Father who created the universe knows your name, sees your needs, and loves you beyond measure.
Let’s Pray:
“Father, I praise you as the merciful and compassionate God. Thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. Help me to see myself through your eyes and rest in your care. Thank You for sending Jesus so I could become your child. Teach me to trust Your heart and walk confidently in your love. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.”

If you’ve never established a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I encourage you to open your heart to God’s love and grace today. Acknowledge your need for forgiveness and ask the Lord to cleanse you from all sin. Turn away from behaviors
and attitudes that separate you from God. Surrender your life completely to Him and invite Jesus to become both your Savior and Lord. Seek out a Bible-believing church where you can grow spiritually and serve others. Begin cultivating a meaningful relationship with God by setting aside daily time for Bible reading and prayer.

When I first began bass fishing as a young adult, I didn’t have the luxury of a bass boat and all its frills. I fished with a friend who had a “V” hull aluminum boat. The trolling motor was small, and the outboard was even smaller. He owned a small cabin on the lake, so our fishing always started from the same location. Because of the limited horsepower we rarely traveled very far away. We always fished in the same places and seldom went home empty-handed. It seems as I got older and better equipped, I traveled farther up and down the lake to find those illusive bass, only to have pretty much the same results. You see now I spend more of my time moving than I do fishing and while I can see what’s below now with all the sonar, I once knew what was below by experience. I had fished Straight Creek Hollow so many times, under so many situations, that I knew where the bass were probably hiding. I was simply forced to bloom where I was planted. Oh, there were times that I wished I were up in the river or down beside the bridge; but I was forced to learn to succeed where I was at the time. I think about this same scenario when I deer hunt. I know that I will be better off if I will just come to know the 50 acres I’ve been given instead of trying to hunt 400 acres.
I can remember taking a picture of a young pine tree. It was growing from the middle of a huge rock, and it was thriving. What it couldn’t go around, above, or under, it just went through. I knew it was not supposed to grow there but it didn’t. I knew it was out of place but it didn’t. I could have explained to it every reason why it would never become a fruitful tree, but the only thing that would have been unfruitful were my words. Because, you see, it bloomed where it was planted.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you will never succeed where you are. Don’t let anyone add you to the average or make you fit into a certain research demographic. When God is with you, what you can’t go around, above, or under, He will take you through.

Clifford’s Army Rescue (C.A.R.E.) and Cleveland County Animal Services will host a Free Microchip Clinic and Rabies Vaccine Clinic for Cleveland County pet owners. Please remember that rabies vaccinations are required by North Carolina state law for cats, dogs, and ferrets over four months of age. Please keep dogs on a leash and cats secured in a carrier Officials say rabies vaccinations are a critical tool in preventing the spread of the deadly virus, helping to protect pets, families, and the broader community. Cleveland County Animal Services will administer rabies vaccines on-site at no cost. In addition to vaccinations, C.A.R.E. will provide free microchips for dogs and cats, with a veterinarian on-site to assist with the process. Microchips are widely recognized as the most effective method of reuniting lost pets with their owners. The quick and permanent identification system takes only seconds to implant and can significantly improve the chances of a pet returning home safely. Organizers encourage all Cleveland County pet owners to take advantage of these free services, particularly in light of the recent increase in rabies cases across the county.
