Robbery suspect arrested at Grover On Thursday police arrested a suspect who allegedly shot one person and stabbed three others in a robbery early Wednesday afternoon at the Smoke Shop at 112 York Road in Kings Mountain. While fleeing the scene, the suspect allegedly stole the business owner’s 2018 burgundy Toyota RAV4. Ricky O’Daniel Smith, Jr., 19, was arrested in Grover and taken to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department. Smith faces charges of four counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, and second-degree kidnapping. Early Thursday, the Kings Mountain issued an alert to citizens using the City’s Emergency Notification System. “Someone in Grover received the alert,” said Mayor Neisler. “When they saw a burgundy RAV4, they notified the police. Firestone Fibers and Textiles Company invests $19 million KM facility Provided by Gaston Co. Economic Development Commission The Gaston County Economic Development Commission is pleased to announce that the Firestone Fibers & Textile Company, a manufacturer of technical textile fibers, is expanding their North American headquarters and advanced manufacturing plant located at 100 Firestone Lane in Kings Mountain by 110,000 square feet in size. Firestone Fibers & Textile Company established a Gastonia production operation in 1935. It is one of the oldest existing factory operations in the County. The company intends to invest a total investment of $19.768 million in plant expansion and new machinery and equipment. The company intends to create at least 25 new jobs. Since 1992 the Kings Mountain facility has manufactured tire cord and

similar products. Firestone Fibers & Textiles has ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 registered plants located in Kings Mountain and Gastonia in North Carolina, USA, and Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. The Kings Mountain plant is 483,916 square feet in size not including the current expansion. Mr. Chad Brown, Chairman of the Gaston County Board of Commissioners said: “This plant expansion is great news for Kings Mountain and Gaston County.” He further stated, “It is always gratifying when one of our community’s oldest operating industrial firms - Firestone Fibers & Textile Company continues to grow.” Chairman Brown added, “The Board of Commissioners appreciates Firestone Fibers & Textile Company’s investment and job creation.” “This expansion of Firestone Fibers & Textile Company is wonder-
