Veronét Vineyards and Winery plans to open August-September Veronét Vineyards and Winery announced that it is finalizing completion on its Estate vineyards and winery property with plans to open in late August or early September. The vineyard is located on 1549 Ike Brooks Dr., Kings Mountain. “This announcement is a culmination of years’ worth of hard work and vision, and we cannot wait to share our stunning property with the world!” said Monique Sullivan, Founder and Managing Partner of Veronét. “We are excited to offer not only delicious wines, but a variety of fun experiences from wine dinners to pairing classes that will provide people with opportunities to escape the day-to-day and get more in touch with all aspects of wine from grape-growing to winemaking,” Sullivan continued. “We have worked hard to create a retreat where anyone can relax, take in beautiful views, and enjoy themselves through a range of offerings that will include food, beer, and non-wine beverage options as well.” In addition to the stunning views of Crowders Mountain and Kings Mountain Pinnacle, the first vineyard and winery to come to Kings Mountain will also offer an electric car charging station, LED lighting throughout, drought tolerant landscaping and dry-farming practices for water conservation and will eventually host walking and biking trails on the property. The 6,300 square-foot main winery building is accented by a wall of oversized glass doors that highlight the vineyard and mountain views, and features an expansive open floor-plan tasting room, a 28-foot main bar and 20-

Once open, the entire property will be available for weddings and event rentals; the property rental will include the main winery, outdoor patio, and large outdoor space which overlooks the vineyards. The vineyards, set with southern exposure and home to constant south-westerly winds, are planted on a gentle slope and accented by towering pines, Crowders Mountain, and Kings Mountain Pinnacle. The nearly 5 acres of plantings are made up of Cabernet Franc, Viognier, and Chambourcin vines. The Sullivan family is excited to welcome their first estate harvest in the fall of 2020, and currently works to produce the healthiest vines while maintaining minimal impact on the land through a reduced use of chemicals and a variety of manual processes.

Citizens concerned about speeders By Loretta Cozart Several West Gold Street residents addressed city council at the July 30 meeting regarding speeders in the West End Historic District. Stevie Edwards requested the city install speed bumps to slow traffic and deter speeders. “I am renovating a house and just want the neighborhood to be safe,” she said. Robin Crisp shared that she has lived on the West Gold Street for 15 years. “It is treacherous to even walk on the sidewalk. People of all ages blow through the 4-way

stop on West Gold Street. It is dangerous the during school year with so many parents and kids walking to West School,” she said. She requested the city consider placing speed humps. Heather Wilson said, “There are parking issues beside Cherokee Grill with people parking on the sidewalk. Last weekend, six cars parked there causing a big problem,” she said. Chuck Wilson said he has lived on West Gold Street since 1992. “I can remember when children could play in their front yards. No more,” he said. “This has been a continuing problem. With the increasing popularity of Patriots Park, the traffic See SPEEDERS, Page 8A
