Church offers house To Sharpe family The Sharpe family of Kings Mountain will soon move into the parsonage of Ross Grove Baptist Church in Shelby. Rev. Marcus McGill and his congregation have offered Florence and Michael Sharpe and their six children the use of the parsonage rent free for a month. Meantime, the family has been staying at Comfort Inn since their house on El Bethel Road burned Jan. 24. The Kings Mountain community and many people all over the county have rallied to help the Sharpes who lost everything in the early morning fire. Michael Sharpe was preparing to go to work and turned a ceramic space heater on and the breaker blew. He flipped it back on, went outside to warm up his truck, and looked back to find one side of the house ablaze. He woke his sleeping wife and six children and got them out of the house. In addition to a GoFundMe page, monetary donations to the Sharpes can be sent in care of Ross Grove Baptist Church, 1225 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150. The family also needs furniture. The church telephone number is 704-4826051. KMPD Officer Jason Dee is heading up a collection drive for gift cards to help the family out when they get settled. These donations can be delivered to Dee at Kings Mountain Police Department.

Costner Christmas moves uptown The Costner Christmas lights will continue to burn during the holiday season in Kings Mountain but they are moving uptown. Mayor Scott Neisler said the city has purchased the Costner lights and decoration and they will make Patriots Park festive for the

2018 holiday season. City workers hauled the equipment, lights and decoration to a storage building last week. Both Grady Costner and his wife, Katie, are deceased but their family want the popular couple to live on in the display

of thousands of lights and decoration Grady made from steel rods for decades in his workshop, adding a new piece every year and creating a showplace that some call a “Little McAdenville.” See COSTNER, Page 3A
