Hometown Heroes worked into the morning hours restoring power By Loretta Cozart Around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, an electrical outage occurred near Gaston St, affecting Circuit # 3, served out of distribution station # 4. The circuit serves the Indian Creek, Oakland St., Meadowbrook Rd., Hawthorne, S. Cansler St., W. Gold St. portions, S. Gaston/Kings Wood Apts., and the Falls St. area. The outage occurred after a cluster of massive, mature trees were uprooted due to the rain and wind, resulting in them falling onto the power lines and snapping two poles. By 7:30 p.m., 95 percent of power had been restored, according to the city. Crews worked through the night to restore the remaining five percent power outage in the Kingswood Apartment Complex. The final circuit

was placed back into service around 4:30 a.m. In a Facebook post, the City of Kings Mountain acknowledged those who worked to restore power, sharing, “We would like to thank all of the city employees (within three departments) who came together and worked tirelessly through the night to restore services to our residents.” • Electric Department: Daniel Kale, Rodney Bell, Maxx Cudd, Jordan Waycaster, Tucker Hamrick, Steven Tomberlin, Christian Keller, Jacob Carter, and Tyler Bowen. • Gas Department: Chase Gibson, Corbin Berryman, and Carson Ragsdale. • Water Department: Austin McDaniel, Donnie Spencer, and Nate Jones. Public hearing for Dixon Ridge By Loretta Cozart On Thursday, January 11, Kings Mountain City Council will conduct a Public Hearing for Dixon Ridge, the 384-acre Plan Development south of the I-85 interchange at Exit 5. The project has received opposition for over a year, and Thrive Kings Mountain collected more than 700 signatures urging the council not to approve the project. Kings Mountain’s Planning and

Zoning Board also recommended not to support rezoning. Several citizens spoke against the project during the last city council meeting. On November 28, Kings Mountain City Council approved the rezoning request with a few amendments. The property is located south of the I-85 bridge on Dixon School Road. The vote was 5 -2, with Councilmen Allen and West voting against.

NC Board of Elections delayed considering removal of Trump from 2024 ballot Last week, the North Carolina Board of Elections considered a challenge to former President Donald Trump’s ability to be on the ballot in the 2024 election. While the State board delayed consideration of the matter in a 4-1 vote, Democrats may bring the matter up again before the general election. Speaker Moore and Elections Chair Rep. Grey Mills have released the following statement: "In light of recent efforts by activists both here in North Carolina and others,

we believe it is necessary for us to explore legislative action to ensure the Democratic majority on the NC State Board of Elections does not have unchecked authority to remove a major political party’s nominee from the ballot. North Carolina will be a critical state in the upcoming presidential election, and removing a leading candidate in this race like President Trump would be an affront to democracy." In an unprecedented decision, on December 19, the Colorado Supreme Court removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot. Other states are considering similar action
