cision by the state court comes after a state Court of Appeals panel initially blocked filing for legislative and Congressional candidates, only to have the decision reversed by the full intermediate-level Appeals Court Dec. 8. Expanded Catawba Two Kings Casino pre-launch facility opens Dec. 15 500 additional gaming machines An expanded pre-launch facility with an additional 500 gaming machines, including electronic table games offering blackjack, roulette, craps, and baccarat, is anticipated to open Dec. 15 at the Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain. With the completed expansion, the temporary casino now features 1,000 gaming machines. They include 954 traditional slot machines and 46 positions at four automated electronic table game pods in a stadium setup. “Our patrons will soon be able to play their favorite table games such as black-

jack, roulette, craps, and baccarat right here at Catawba Two Kings Casino – all from the comfort of one seat,” said Mike Ulizio, president of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority. “The electronic table games are a great addition as we provide more gaming opportunities at a convenient location for people across the Charlotte region.” The electronic table games feature an easy-touse interface that delivers a classic table games experience that experienced players will love and that lets beginners learn in a non-intimidating environment. Keyboards at Christmas A seasonal favorite returns this Sunday The Christmas season beautifully lifts our spirits with cantatas and carol singing. But one area tradition draws our attention to the simple beauty of instrumental celebration. This Sunday, December 19, Keyboards at Christmas will take to the stage of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain in two performances. The ninety-minute presentation combines the lilting sounds of five grand pianos with additional keyboards, handbells and percussion. Six keyboard artists carry the program: Mrs. Traci Aderholt, Mrs. Heather Bundon, Dr. Jonathan Bundon, Mrs. Bethany Keller, Mr. Michael Sisk and Mrs. Sherry Thomas, with additional percussion and hand-

Lt. McDougal retires December 15 On November 30, Lieutenant Todd McDougal was awarded his service weapon and badge for 17 years of service to Kings Mountain Police Department, after service to other law enforcement agencies. He retires from KMPD on December 15. He began his employment with the Kings Mountain Police Department in 2005 as a Patrol Officer. He was promoted to Corporal in the Detective Division in November of 2007. He was then promoted to Sergeant in the Patrol Division in March of 2014. In October of 2016, he transferred back to the Detective Division. In January of 2018, he was promoted to Lieutenant and has been serving in that capacity since. As a Lieutenant, Todd was a dedicated public servant having conducted

himself in a professional manner, earning the respect of those with whom he served, and those he was entrusted to serve, contributing to the betterment of his department and the community. McDougal began his career serving others in 1985 as a Paratrooper and Infantry Fire Team Leader for the 82nd Airborne Division for three years. From 1991 to 1998, he served as Captain for a private security contractor with the company police, Action Security. He joined the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff from 2000 to 2003. He served as Lieutenant and Field Training Supervisor with the Metro Special Police from 2003 to 2005. KMPD Chief Lisa Proctor said of McDougal, “Lt. McDougal is an outstanding See MCDOUGAL, Page 5A

Ray Scott to perform at the American Legion on January 7 Sons of the Legion at Kings Mountain American Legion Post 155 welcomes international recording artist Ray Scott on January 7 for an intimate acoustic music experience.
