Mayor’s Message
Free candy at Festival but not on streets A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR SCOTT NEISLER Open letter to Kings Mountain residents: ‘’I’m really looking forward to the Christmas season this year in Kings Mountain! Christy Connor has done a great job in making our Winter Wonderland a fabulous
event after the parade. ‘’We are providing free Christmas Candy at Winter Wonderland rather than during the Christmas Parade for safety reasons. All entries that have planned to give candy can do so at Patriot’s Park. ‘’I have had this weighing on my heart for some time
now about the throwing of candy out of vehicles during the Christmas Parade. Some years ago, I was shooting fireworks in Cowpens during the “Mighty Moo Festival” and during their parade a firetruck ran over a small child that was darting under the truck to pick up candy. In Fantasy Light show The Christmas fantasy lights show downtown will be different this year. Mayor Scott Neisler and Jeff Ward are working hard to premier 21st Century technology on Railroad Avenue, an extravaganza of lights that will be switched on Saturday after the parade to kickoff Winter Wonderland in the
city and Patriots Park immediately following the 3 p.m. Christmas parade. “Instead of a lightarama it will be X Lights,’’ said the mayor, who is installing LEDs where each bulb has the capacity to produce 100,000 different colors. Graphics on the trees and windows of the Cherokee Grill, the Plonk
Brothers buildings, and the Dixie Theatre building will enhance the spectacle. Addressable LEDs is how the mayor explains the process. This means that each bulb has its own Internet Protocol and each can be controlled. The mayor says there will be 512 light bulbs on each of See LIGHT SHOW, Page 7A
