“Christmas KM” Festival to take over Patriots Park
Santa Claus is coming to Town! Santa is coming! Santa is coming! I know him! The Jolly Old Elf from the North Pole will pay a visit to Kings Mountain on December 2 for the Christmas wKings Mountain Parade. Afterward, Santa will
be available in his very own workshop, arriving at 5:30 pm. Santa’s workshop is located at Patriots Park. Bring your camera and your best smile. Santa is looking forward to seeing you!
It’s time to ring in the holiday season, and this year, there is no better place to celebrate than in Downtown Kings Mountain with a “Christmas Kings Mountain” Festival featuring amazing Christmas lights, interactive experiences, and free festive fun for the entire family. Make plans to gather downtown at Patriots Park after the Christmas Parade for an evening with Christmas lights, carriage rides, hayrides, train rides, interactive characters, Santa, and much more! Kings Mountain takes great pride in its special blend of family-friendly holiday magic. Stroll through Patriots Park and experience Costner’s Christmas Lights Extravaganza and Santa’s Workshop. Liberty Mountain Garden, located at the Joy Performance Center, will be transformed into a Downtown Artisan Market featuring local goods that
will make the perfect stocking stuffers, and, of course, the extremely popular Bela Express train rides will be returning for another season. Holly Jolly hayrides and North Pole Express carriage rides (registration required for carriage rides) will roll Downtown bringing even more Christmas cheer. The City of Kings Mountain will also welcome Kings Highway and Heaven Bound Trio. This special Christmas show will begin at 6:00 pm. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! Join us as the City of Kings Mountain announces the “Christmas Kings Mountain” parade, presented by CaroMont Health, on December 2. The parade will begin at 3:00 pm on West King Street near First Baptist Church, proceed down West King Street, turning on South Railroad Avenue to Patriots Park. Over 100 entries are expected for the parade, including the Kings Mountain High School Marching Mountaineers, the Catawba Shrine Club’s Gator Pa-
trol, Sir Purr and the Carolina Panther Top Cats, the jolly ole elf himself, Santa Claus, and many other surprises. Our 2023 Kings Mountain Lady Mountaineer Volleyball State Champions will serve as our Grand Marshals for this special event. The Christmas Parade will impact various roads, beginning on King Street (74 Business) at the intersection of Sims Street, east down Kings Street, and then south on Railroad Avenue. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling through Kings Mountain.
Seeing Isn't Believing, Believing Is Seeing...... The sights of Christmas will soon shine in Patriots Park, as the City of Kings Mountain hosts its third annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Wednesday, November 22, at 6 p.m. This free event will include music from the Patrick Senior Center's Senior Chorus and Vintage Vibe, concessions from Anna's Sweet Treats, Storytime with Mayor Neisler and so much more. Kick-off the holiday season with friends and family in Patriots Park.
To celebrate their stellar season, the City has named the Kings Mountain Lady Mountaineer High School Volleyball Team and 3A NCHSSA State Champions as the grand marshal for the 2023 Kings Mountain Christmas Parade. Arlene Johnson McMurtry has retired after serving clients at ScissorSmith & Company for over four decades. The salon is now owned by Owner/Stylist Becky Cain Simmons, who started working after finishing her cosmetology course at Kings Mountain High. Other staff at ScissorSmith Salon include stylist/
nail tech Natalie Newsome and Susan Ramsey and esthetician/massage therapist Olivia Thompson. 1968 Arlene Johnson graduated from Kings Mountain High School and Mrs. Lillian Whitworth’s Cosmetology class. For fifteen years, she worked with various local hairdressers, including Tiara Hair Designs, owned by Shirley Allen; Edie’s Beauty Shop, owned by Edith Lovell; and Scissors & Styles owned by Sandi Rhea Shields.
