Kings Mountain Chief of Police Jerry Tessneer passed away early Monday morning. His funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Penley’s Chapel and will be conducted by his predecessor, retired chief Melvin Proctor. The visitation is tonight from 5-8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. Tessneer, who joined the force in 1992, took command on June 30, 2017 upon the retirement of Chief Proctor. According to Mayor Scott Neisler, Tessneer recently underwent knee replacement surgery and it was successful, but he said Tessneer had felt poorly the last several days. “He got really short of breath yesterday,” Neisler said Monday. “I saw him last Friday and he was just not feeling very good. He wasn’t back to normal. “I swore him in as a Kings Mountain officer in 1992 and I swore him in as chief on June 30, 2017, the day that Chief Melvin Proctor retired.” Neisler said he expects

tain chiefs to be promoted through the ranks. Before his retirement, Chief Bob Hayes worked with Tessneer during the early to mid-nineties during Tessneer’s early days with KMPD, and was his chief for two years. “He was a good man and a good officer,” Hayes said.

“Awesome” was the word Assistant Chief Lisa Proctor had for Tessneer. “He was an awesome officer and an awesome chief,” she said. “He was our chief, our friend, and our mentor and he had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever been around. If you had See CHIEF, Page 2A

The smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, this much-revived classic from Noel Coward offers up fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira who is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” one Madame Arcati. As the (worldly and un-) personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed, “passes over,” joins Elvira, and the two “blithe spirits” haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity. The cast: Edith - the maid – Denise McCoy.

Ruth - Charles' current wife – Sara Corbin. Charles - husband to Ruth and, before her passing, to Elvira - Robert Owens. Dr. Bradman – Scott Carpenter. Mrs. Bradman – Linda Sharp. Madame Arcati - a medium - Wendy Walega. Elvira - Charles' late wife – Erica Carpenter. Reviews: "Can still keep an audience in a state of tickled contentment" - Ben Brantley, The New York Times, 2009 "A world-class comedy" - TheaterMania.com, 2009 Caution: mild adult themes.

Blythe Spirit will be performed at the Kings Mountain Little Theatre at 7:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, October 5, 6, 12, and 13 and a Sunday matinee at 3:00 PM on October 7.
