Halloween Parade to be held October 31 By Loretta Cozart Calling all Ghosties, Ghoulies and Scary Wee Beasties, the City of Kings Mountain will host the annual "Great Pumpkin Halloween Parade" on Wednesday, October 31. Come dressed in your best costume and march downtown to Patriots Park. Children are invited to gather at the City Hall Plaza (101W. Gold Street) at 9:30 am to line up. At 10:00 am the foot parade will be led by Mayor Scott Neisler on a route to the Gazebo at Patriots Park for post-parade activities.

Kings Mountain Main Street Special Events Department, Mauney Memorial Library's Harris Children's Department, in cooperation with Dance Magic Studio, Cleveland County Childcare Connections and Partnership for Children will provide entertainment, games, Halloween stories, songs, singalong's and fun for all. The Kings Mountain Police Department and the Kings Mountain Fire Department will have a patrol car and a fire truck on display. Local merchants are encouraged to dress in costumes to greet the children along the

parade route. Tables will be provided at Patriots Park for businesses to use to give away candy and treats. Afterward, children and parents are welcome to stay and play, have a picnic lunch or dine in one of the convenient downtown restaurants. The parade will start at the City Hall Plaza and continue to Battleground Ave., Mountain St. and South Railroad Ave. and end at Patriots Park. "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" free screening Thursday A free film screening of "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" will be held on October 25, 2018 at the Joy Performance Center at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.). By Loretta Cozart According to the Cleveland County Board of Elections, 4,248 of Cleveland County's 64,786 eligible voters cast their ballots during the first three days of early voting,. That equates to a 6.6 percent voter turnout across the county. In Kings Mountain, 828 citizens voted. The number of Democrats compared to Republicans voting was within 100. And the number of Unaffiliated voters was 987. According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website, "One-stop absentee voting (commonly known as "early voting") allows any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot in person on select days prior to Election Day. By Loretta Cozart Helen Williams Bullock celebrates her 101st birthday on Thursday at First Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Her great-nephew from Minnesota plans to attend, along with friends and family. Bullock’s parents, Wray and Emma Mae Ware Williams, owned a farm where Watterson Street and Waco Road intersect. Bullock remembers walking to West School and then to Central High School. “We walked to school and joined with other families along the way. Walking to West School and Central wasn’t too bad. When we walked all the way to East School,

HELEN BULLOCK that was hard,” she said. During her junior year, Central burned, and students went to East School in the morning and then to Central. “The auditorium and classrooms below did

not burn. Classes in those sections included primary grades and home economics,” said Bullock. “We went to school in the evening for Home Economics, and I played basketball on the auditorium stage.” Her high school class photo was taken in front of Central School. “I guess they finished rebuilding the school by graduation in 1934.
