Michael Sharpe, 44, saw the side of his house on fire and smoke pouring out of his house on El Bethel Road early Wednesday morning and got his wife and six kids out of their burning house. “This is not happening to us, this can’t be happening to us,’’ Florence Sharpe, 34, said Wednesday, as she and her husband watched everything they had go up in smoke. The family dog, a Lab, did not make it out. “She went to check on the kids and never came back,’’ said Mrs. Sharpe. Ocean in May 1932. It is a grueling 15-hour flight with thunderstorms, equipment failures, weather icing problems, engine overheating and no way to leave the small, cramped cockpit. The stress, physical and mental, leads Amelia to look back on her life and people she has known. These flashbacks lead to a series of dramatic and comic vignettes which tell us more about this famous American aviatrix. A key prop of the play is a stage replica of her Lockheed Vega aircraft.
