LINEMEN – The recent graduates of the new Electrical Line Worker Academy prove they aren’t afraid of heights in this photograph.

August 29 from new Line Worker Academy Eleven students graduated Aug. 29 in the first class at the new Electrical Line Worker Academy at Cleveland Community College and already two men have been hired by the City of Shelby. Jordan Wacaster and Jacob Williams will begin working for the City of Shelby in September. The men agree that the hands-on learning provided at the Academy was beneficial. “I found the curriculum fairly easy to learn because I could physically put my hands on almost everything the instructors talked about,’’ said

Williams. Wacaster and Williams are excited to begin their careers with the City of Shelby. “I can’t wait to start my new job with the city,’’ said Wacaster. “It’s exciting to be part of something you love to do in your hometown. I look forward to taking my knowledge to the next level and working under some of the best men in the business.” The collaboration with the City of Shelby, the City of Kings Mountain, Duke Energy and local power utility contractors resulted in a training program designed by linemen for linemen. The Academy provides fast-track, hands-on training for employment as an entry-level line worker. See 11 GRADUATE, Page 7A
