Board mulling $92 million proposed school budget Moves by county officials and state lawmakers likely would have impact on final education spending DAVE BLANTON dave.kmherald@gmail.com

The Cleveland County Board of Education was presented Monday with a $92.04 million proposed budget for

the 2015-2016 school year. Finance officials compiling the budget took into account more than 30 categories of expenses including classroom teachers, children with special needs, student transportation, school resource officers and non-contributory employee benefits to arrive at the numbers put before the board, which was presented to the Cleveland

County Schools Director of Finance David Lee. Classroom teacher payroll expenses, which comes in at $43.1 million account for the largest line item on the current budget proposal. Trailing that is an $8.7 million expected allotment needed to provide resources for children with special needs. The county school’s budget lists the expected cost of non-con-

tributory employee benefits at roughly 3.5 million, student transportation calls for expenditures of just under $3 million. Lee discussed the highlights of the 273-page budget before school board members and asked for input from the nine-person panel. The proposed budget was submitted See BOARD, Page 4
