Downtown revitalization

How will Kings Mountain spend $96,107 grant? How will the city spend a $96,107 state revitalization grant for downtown Kings Mountain? That's the question that 17 downtown businessmen and women mulled over in a meeting Monday night in the Community Room of Mauney Memorial Library. The group set downtown lighting and signage as top priorities among the groups of projects they had dis-

cussed in earlier meetings. Members of the group have met several times recently to list projects and Monday night they heard Jan Harris, the city's Main Street Director list some of the projects they had discussed. Some of the projects the group is considering include a Smart Phone/device app to promote downtown businesses, events, etc.;

downtown OPEN banners for businesses, 23 metal benches for downtown, replacement of globes for all period street lights or replace light bulbs in each of the period street lights, additional lighting for Cherokee Street parking lot, alley between parking lot and Battleground Avenue and the walkway between the parking lot and Gold Street.

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 220 N. Watterson St., will serve as a one-stop no-excuse early voting site in Kings Mountain for the March 15 Primary. The voting site will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday March 3,4, and 5 from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.; Monday, March 5 through Friday, March 11 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday,

March 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Dayna Causby, Director of Elections, said voter registration closes Feb. 19 at the Cleveland County Board of Elections but voters can also register and vote at the one-stop voting site. Hutchins to update shooting range progress County Commissioner Johnny Hutchins will give an update on the progress and expected opening of the Foothills Public Shooting Range for Cleveland Chamber members February 17 from 7:45 a.m.-8:30 a.m. at the county Chamber office in Shelby. The Chamber's free seminar series is open to all Chamber members. Make reservation by calling 704487-8521. The shooting range, expected to open in March, is expected to be the largest public shooting range in the Southeast with separate shooting areas for rifles, pistols and archery.
