Martin Luther King Jr., slain Civil Rights leader and pre-eminent adTHURMAN vocate of non-violence, will be remembered on his birthday at two Martin Luther King Day events in Kings Mountain Monday. Rev. Donnie Thurman Jr., Youth Pastor at Palmer Grove Baptist Church in Kingstown and a member of the Cleveland County Board of Education, will speak at the 16th annual MLK breakfast at Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church Family Life Center., 310 Ellis Street, at 8 a.m. Monday morning. Everyone is welcome. A donation of $5 for adults will be accepted. The breakfast is free to children and youth in grades K-12. The City of Kings Moun-

tain is sponsoring the annual MLK Day event at a service at 6 p.m. at Joy Performance Center to which the public is invited. Rev. Anthony Sanders, the new pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, will be the keynote speaker. A rendition of Dr. King's “I Have A Dream” speech, delivered originally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC on August 28, 1963 will be performed by Lester Williams. The Mount Zion Baptist Church Choir will present special music and the church's Lyrical Dancers will also perform. The event is free. The third Monday in January is a federal holiday celebrating the life and achievement of a man who taught by example that non-violent action is the most powerful, revolutionary force for social change available to oppresssed people in their struggles for liberation.

Three suspects wanted in Holiday Inn robbery Police are looking for three suspects in the reported armed robbery of Holiday Inn, 100 Woodlake Parkway. Two black men entered the lobby of the hotel Saturday with their faces covered and jumped over the counter while pointing handguns at the hotel worker demanding money. The suspects took money from the cash drawer and also a safe and left in a light color, possibly a Chrysler, four-door passenger car that was driven by a third suspect

of unknown race and gender, police said. The vehicle left traveling down Woodlake Parkway toward Gaston County. Suspect one is described as a black male, 6'1'' weighing 165-170 pounds wearing a white hoodie and khaki pants. Suspect two is described as a black male, 6'2'' weighing 165-170 pounds wearing a gray camouflage or stone washed pants. Suspect three is unknown. “NTE Energy's timetable for construction is on schedule in spite of the rain and the best is yet to come,'' says NTE's Mike Green, Vice-President of Development for the $450M natural gas electric generating facility off Dixon School Road. Holmes Green ‘thumbs' goal of participants case who will enjoy new green house is mistrial Monday Former mayoral candidate Eugene “Sherlock” Holmes, 77, will return to Cleveland County District Court in February after Judge Jeanette Reeves declared a mistrial Monday due to a misunderstanding by a previous judge and the District Attorney’s Office. Holmes represented himself in court and pled not guilty to the charges. Crystal Certain joins city as new finance director Crystal Certain, the city's new finance officer, likes calling Kings Mountain her home away from home. Certain, her husband Adrian and daughter, Amber, live on the Dallas/ Cherryville Highway and she finds Kings Mountain a much closer commute than McAdenville, where she worked nearly four years as Town Administrator, clerk, and finance officer. “I am meeting so many people who work for the City of Kings Mountain
