National Night Out is August 6 The City of Kings Mountain will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6 at 6 p.m. at the Gazebo at Patriots Park, 420 S. Railroad Avenue, Kings Mountain. Local law enforcement and first responders will have displays and exhibits set up for the community to learn about these agencies and have a better understanding of the services they provide. Other community partners will be on hand to offer a variety of family friendly activities to the public. National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with the local law enforcement partners. The goal is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs and most importantly, send a message that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. It’s
also the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors even better. Along with the traditional outside light and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local law enforcement, safety fairs and youth events. Stop by Patriots Park to enjoy an evening of free entertainment and inflatables. Mark Blanton with Mink Productions will provide music for this event. The territory expansion is designed as a first step to position Joedance as a major film festival in the Mid-Atlantic region, and to mirror the service footprint of the organization it bene-

Roundabouts progressing By Loretta Cozart Both of Kings Mountain’s roundabouts show steady progress and the one at Kings Mountain Blvd. and Margrace Road could open this week, a month early. Half of the roundabout at the intersection of Cansler and Mountain Streets has been poured. Work continues this week and, if all goes as planned, it should be completed before August 24. “We’ve made great progress with the roundabout on Margrace Road,” said Mayor Neisler. “We’ve got to stamp the concrete there and hope to have it open by the end of the week. Folks are working hard to keep the roundabout at Mountain and Cansler Streets on schedule. We plan to have it done before Beachblast.”
