Kings Mountain Rescue Squad celebrates 60th anniversary By Loretta Cozart
REAL TO REEL returns to Joy Theatre Lights, cameras, action! The Cleveland County Arts Council is proud to present the 19th annual Real to Reel International Film Festival, a unique festival celebrating the art of film. This year’s festival is co-sponsored by Kings Mountain Little Theatre, The Historic Kings Mountain Tourism Development Authority and the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Returning again this year is Real to Reel Kids Fest sponsored by KidSenses Children’s Interactive Museum. This special screening on Saturday morning at 10:00am will feature films made for KIDS and films made by KIDS! Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door, for this screening; children 12 and under are free. See REAL, Page 7A
Last Saturday the Kings Mountain Rescue Squad celebrated 60-years of saving lives and serving the people of Kings Mountain. Captain John Harris said, “Mayor Neisler attended the celebration, along with Fire Chief Frank Burns. We had three former Captains: Jonie Blanton, Johnnie Hutchins, and Preston Leonard. Many prior EMTs and their families joined us, too. There was a table filled with memorabilia and photos. Everyone kept trying to identify folks they had worked with over the years. It was a great celebration.” Those attending enjoyed a BBQ dinner, corn hole, music, and cake. Young ones were entertained with bounce houses while others played corn-hole. “For the last 60 years, the Kings Mountain Rescue Squad has served its citizens when their need is the

Arby’s restaurant will hold their ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration today (Wednesday, July 25th) at 9:45 a.m. The announcement was made by the Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce. The public is invited to come by to spin the wheel for chances to win prizes and Arby’s merchandise. Kings Mountain’s newest 1,930 square foot restaurant was built at a cost of $780,621.00. Their new location is at 216 Cleveland Avenue, Kings Mountain. Come by and visit their new location.
Connections Church on a mission By Loretta Cozart Connections Church, a young non-denominational congregation in Kings Mountain, is working hard to send three pastors on a mission trip to Uganda. Earlier this month, members washed cars and trucks in the Hardee’s parking lot to raise the funds to send pastors Shane Reese, Stan Brucker, and Isaiah Cole on the trip. City of KM installs nesting platform By Loretta Cozart The City of Kings Mountain’s Electrical Department installed two Osprey nesting platforms at Moss Lake on July 12th. “One was installed next to an existing Osprey nest and the other was installed at the Cane Creek Site,” said Mayor Scott Neisler. Osprey populations dwindeled in the 1970’s due to the common use of DDT. Conservation efforts have greatly helped the species bounce back in recent years. According to the NC Wildlife Commission, “The osprey is perhaps our
