Opens Friday

KMLT to present ‘Lying in State’ Kings Mountain Little Theatre and Harris Funeral Home will ring the curtain up Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. on the hilarious comedy, “Lying in State.” Two more shows will be presented next weekend on April 20 and April 21 at 7:30 p.m.at Joy Theatre and tickets may be purchased at the theatre box office for $15 for adults and $10 for students. Online tickets may be purchased at wwwl.kmlt.org. Kevin L. Burke is directing the cast which includes Mary Grace Keller as Edna, Jim Champion as

Herb, Mark Griffin as Wally, Dawn Rickus as Buttong, Greg Dixon as Fred, Margaret Neely as Margo and Chad Spurling as Harry. The plot of “Lying in State” centers on a late state senator (Ed) who dies in a ridiculous gun accident, turning him into a national hero. The rip-roaring romp gets off to its zany start at the funeral parlor with his ex-wife Edna, Ed’s campaign manager, brother and an ex-exotic dancer who claims to be Ed’s fiancée. Everyone is looking for something. The local political party leaders are strenuously looking for someone

to fill his senate seat. His exwife is looking for a bugler to play at his funeral. A host of other zany characters are looking for love, votes, and the right casket in this madcap comedy about love, politics and things not being what they seem to be. Kings Mountain Little Theatre, Inc. is a volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. It is supported in part by a Grassroots Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and is a funded affiliate of the Cleveland County Arts Council.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Mark Johnson of Raleigh apparently likes what he saw in Cleveland County Schools. Johnson is taking his “listening tour” to every school district in the state and sharing the information he receives with school districts all over the state. He was particularly impressed Monday morning with how Kings Mountain High School is collaborating with Cleveland Community College in offering students’ college credits while in high school and paving the way for students to get jobs out of high school if they don’t plan a college education. Last year some seniors at KMHS graduated from CCC with a two-year degree. His visit here took him to a drafting class taught by Dan Owens. Students were working on 3-D printing and other work and he was impressed with the professionalism in the class and in welding also where students are getting training for future jobs in those fields if they decide not to
