The Town of McAdenville will soon be getting a new town hall. The hall will be housed in the former McAdenville United Methodist Church building right in the heart of the downtown area. The church building was constructed in 1961 and the town paid the Methodist Conference $205,000 for it back in June, 2017. The current town hall is a rented storefront space of about 1,500 sq. ft. The new hall will boast 4,500 sq. ft. Moving town government into a former church meant a lot of renovations needed to be done. The town set a budget of $477,000 for the work which began in May 2018. McAdenville mayor Jim Robinette says everything should be ready for town business by October. “The new place will be a great thing for the town,” Robinette said. “It will give us room for future growth.” Town clerk Lesley Dellinger has made do with the current, cramped, town hall for a long time and is looking forward to moving into the new, spacious building. Mt. Holly police chief returns to work following illness Mt. Holly police chief Don Roper returned to work last week after suffering a massive stroke on August 13. Prior to the emergency, Chief Roper, 52, had not missed a day of work in 31 years. “It is with sincere gratitude that I offer my thanks to everyone in the community who shared their prayers and support during my recent hospital stay,” Roper said. “The outpouring of support has been a great comfort to my family, and it has been a very humbling experience for me. I cannot express in words just how grateful I am to serve in a caring community such as ours. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to return to work this week. Thank you again for all your concern and kindness.” Roper was the picture of health before the stroke, however, he also had an irregular heartbeat he wasn’t aware of. The condition, known as atrial fibrillation, AFIB, manifested itself after Roper and his staff had a meeting and he began to feel a bit “off”. Quick action by staff members saw Roper rushed to Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health. Roper was unable to speak or move the right side of his body upon arrival. See CHIEF page 3

Work has begun on the Town of Cramerton’s new greenway. Last week saw workers clearing trees and brush from the greenway’s connection near the Greenwood Place parking area for Goat Island Park. The greenway will eventually run alongside the South Fork River towards

Wilkinson Blvd. and terminate at the Village at South Fork apartment complex. The Town of Cramerton, along with the NCDOT, awarded a contract to Eagle Wood Inc. for the project. Workers at the Greenwood Place site have also constructed a temporary fence enclosure where machinSee GREENWAY page 4
