Mount Holly seats council members By Alan Hodge alan.bannernews@gmail
Last week’s Mt. Holly city council meeting saw a new member sworn in and three incumbents also take the oath of office from Judge Jesse Caldwell III. Following that, a large number of city employees received recognition for years of service and a new police officer was pinned. Dressed in his black robes, Judge Caldwell summoned new councilmember Jeff Meadows to the front where he was sworn in as his family gathered ‘round. Meadows, 47 years old, and his wife, Hope, are excited to be raising their two children, Sophia and Bo, in Mt. Holly. Their family has lived in Mt. Holly for the last eight plus years.
“I am honored to serve the City of Mt. Holly with a fresh perspective and a positive outlook,” Meadows said. “’Opportunities for Growth’ will be my highest priority. My approach will be to first listen and learn, then act accordingly. I will support a thriving community functioning within our means through balanced growth (Residential and Commercial); economic development (Job Creation and Retention); preserving our quality of life (Community Events and Programs); encouraging civic engagement; and top quality services to our citizens. Updating our Strategic Vision Plan with specific input from our citizens will be a key element to continue Mount Holly’s success. Mt. Holly is a community of choice and I want to be a part of keeping it that way. See COUNCIL pages 4 & 5

“Just live your life!” When someone who has been on the planet for over a century says that, you had better listen up. That’s definitely the case for Mable Carson Davis who currently resides quite spryly at the Stanley Total Living Center and who will celebrate her 103rd birthday there on Sunday, Dec. 27th. To put things in perspective, Davis was born the same year the Titanic went down, Woodrow Wilson was elected President, and New Mexico was admitted as the 47th state. Davis was born in Gastonia to Robert and Dollie Stradley Carson in 1912. Her dad’s job was to install textile machinery in new mills so the family moved a lot. “We lived in places like Thomasville and Haw River,” Davis (whose mind recalls names and dates as clear as a bell) said. “We moved every couple of years. When we lived in Haw River I remember my father holding me up to see a parade See MABLE page 3
