A taste of Italy comes to Belmont Chefs from Tuscany take part in Holy Angels fundraiser By Alan Hodge alan.bannernews@gmail.com Last week a bit of sunny Italy, Tuscany to be exact, came to Belmont in the form of four lady chefs from that colorful region who pitched in to take part in a special event supporting Holy Angels. Known as the “Italian Mammas”, the chefs, Mimma Ferrando, Lele Vitale, Cristina Carletti, and Franca Gatteschi, flew across the Atlantic to participate in a weekend-long series of celebrations. Friday, November 20, guests enjoyed the fun of a Monte Carlo event and Saturday, November 21 it was a celebration of Holy Angels 60th Anniversary complete with birthday cake & a champagne toast. Sunday, November 22 featured the Tutti A Tavola Cooking Experience at the Art Institute of Charlotte. Guests enjoyed a unique and interactive experience with the Mammas as they shared recipes and cooking methods inspired by traditional Tuscan cuisine. The four "Italian Mammas" also delighted the guests with their stories, while sharing their love of food and cooking. The "Italian Mammas" offer culinary experiences, in their homes, called Tutti-a-Tavola (translates to - "come to the table") in Chanti, Tuscany Italy. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Stowe, Belmont, served as the Chairs for Holy Angels 60th Diamond Anniversary Celebration, "Grazie Mille. . . A Weekend of 1000 Thanks!". The Stowes brought their enthusiasm and love of Holy Angels to the unique three day event to honor this important milestone Holy Angels' history and to raise much needed funds for their special mission. Holy Angels VP of community relations Nancy Nance spoke highly of the Mammas. see more CHEFS page 2

And a desire to painstakingly preserve the historic character of the building means slower progress.
“We are extremely touched by all the interest we’ve gotten and the warm welcome we’ve received from neighbors,” Jonas continued. “We’re disappointed that we won’t be open for the holiday season, but we’re insistent on getting the details right. We can’t overcome the weather, and we refuse to take shortcuts in our renovation of this beautiful building.” Opening a restaurant involves much more than construction, and Jonas and his team are on track with menu development and auditions for the musical wait staff. About 150 people auditioned recently to be part of the staff. Jonas himself conducted the auditions for mu-
