Interim City Manager Miller promoted to permanent position

Heroes come in all configurations and the one recognized last Monday by the Belmont city council is a first grader at Page Primary School. On March 17 at around 5pm, six-year-old Carter Englert was playing video games in his room at the family home on Clay Street when fire broke out. “I heard the fire alarm go off and saw the porch was burning,” Carter said. “I was scared.” However, instead of panicking, Carter kept his head and quickly began alerting other family members to the emergency. His grandmother Kim Cross was taking a nap and his mom Brianna Hurley was soaking in the tub. “I ran and told everyone to get up and out,” Carter said. “We ran into the yard and then the firemen came.” Carter managed to even help the family dog escape the blaze, but sadly two cats weren’t so lucky. South Point’s Cavnar, captures state’s highest honor for teachers

City of Belmont Mayor Charles Martin and the Belmont City Council unanimously approved Adrian Miller to serve as the next city manager for the growing Gaston County town of 10,799. The mayor and city council approved Miller’s hiring during their April 4 meeting. Miller has been with the City of Belmont since 2007, serving as senior planner from 2007-2010 and assistant city manager from 2010-2016. He was appointed interim city manager following the retirement of former city manager Barry Webb in January 2016. “We are excited to have Adrian serve as our next city manager,” Adrian Miller Mayor Martin said last Tuesday morning. “His experience in Belmont and his commitment to ensuring that Belmont maintains its small town feel as it grows and prospers was important to the city council.”
