Cramerton forming historical society By Alan Hodge alan.bannernews@gmail.cvom
When Cramerton held its Centennial Celebration last October it became apparent that not only did the town have a long and rich history, but that a lot of folks were interested in seeing it remembered and preserved. Taking that idea as a starting place, several people are in the early stages of forming an historical society. Ted Reece was a driving force in seeing that the Centennial displays of Cramerton historic memorabilia was displayed for thousands of people to view in the Recreation Center gym, and is now working hard to get the historical society up and running. “It just seemed that having an historical
society in Cramerton was a natural thing to do,” said Reece. Reese revealed that a previous attempt at forming a group several years ago fizzled, but that the new endeavor was already getting noticed. We’ve had thirty or forty people express interest,” said Reece. “The town has assured us of their backing.” Having an historical society is one thing, having a museum for meetings and artifact displays is another. “We are looking for a place,” said Reece. “We have a lot of stuff and it has to go somewhere.” Reece says one possible location for the museum would be in the R.T. Hill Bldg. across from City Hall. See HISTORICAL page 3

Ida Rankin kids perform at MH council meeting By Alan Hodge alan.bannernews@gmail.com
Last week’s meeting of the Mt. Holly city council saw a group of kids from Ida Rankin Elementary give a presentation on recycling based on their RoboGaston theme. RoboGas-
ton is a competition held annually that has elementary and middle school students build a remote control robotic device and put it through its paces. The latest event was held a couple of weeks ago at East Gaston High. The theme for 2016 was Trash Trek Challenge. See COUNCIL page 3
Cramerton mayor Ronnie Worley came out a winner in last week’s Republican primary race for the South Point Township county commission seat. “I am grateful for the confidence the citizens of Gaston County have in me,” said Worley. “I look forward to forming partnerships at all levels of government to improve the quality of life for all of the citizens of our county.” With 58.48 percent of the vote, Worley defeated long-time incumbent Mickey Price who had 38.65 percent. Price was looking to gain his fifth four-year term on the commission. In the Nov. 8 general election Worley will square off against Democrat Leon McClain who is running for political office for the first time. Worley was elected as Cramerton’s mayor in 2009, then re-elected in 2013. In addition to his post as Cramerton’s mayor, Worley is a 28-year veteran sergeant with the N.C. Highway Patrol and plans to retire July 1, 2016. Worley and Price both took part in the recent Montcross Chamber forum. See ELECTION page 4
